It's bizarre. I don't think they are soft -- they go to the net, and into corners. They hit.

But there's something going on upstairs with those boys that makes them look like they just aren't able to function in harder games

oh yeah. for sure.

although big piece is a relative term.

I'm talking Streit, Coburn or one of the forwards, like Brayden Schenn or Couturier.

In some cases, I see clearing cap space and getting an asset like a 3rd rounder as enough value. But in the above cases, they need to make a good value trade and get significant picks/prospects/players in return.

They can improve just by freeing up Umberger's cash and moving Schultz and one of Grossmann/Schenn, using the financial savings to strengthen the bottom six

yeah i agree. you dont move any of those guys simply to clear space/roster spot.

Good luck getting anyone to take Umberger.

I'm not even sure that they can move Grossmann. I bring up the Bryan Allen example again, if he clears waivers, why would anyone trade for Grossmann.

Schenn might be tradeable. Not sure he is, though.

I think either Streit or Coburn could net them another first rounder-a late one to be sure, but that's a Hell of an asset.

Flyers have some methods available to them to create some cap space. I think everyone is signed for next year except for Del Zotto and whoever is going to be the backup goalie. They should have some money to play with.

No, you buy Umberger out -- it just won't kill this franchise to carry that money and invest it in a better player

Buyouts are a tool that they should absolutely use to clear out that roster spot for a more effective player

Sure, but now you have four years of dead cap space. I wouldn't buy out anybody this summer.

It depends on what they want to do. If they need the cap space to make a move, then do it. Don't just do it to do it.

Who cares? Sometimes, we act like the Flyers are the only team that has dead money on the cap or bad contracts.

Almost every single team has a David Clarkson or Victor Stalberg or Bryan Allen. But we're the only fanbase that acts like we cannot possibly get rid of guys like other teams do in order to move forward

true. but then youre looking more towards taking a step back or two in the immediate future. i dont know if thats necessarily right or wrong, but at least it selects a path and provides an objective.

even if space wasnt really an issue, i really dont see a lot of appealing options on the horizon i would want to throw much money at anyway.
