All the stats tell us he's a #1. And you're talking about my credibility?

He has a 40 point avg. in a decade long career. He plays the oppositions' top players everynight. He's been a Runnerup for the Norris. His +/- is usually better than almost everyone on the team despite playing the toughest minutes. He also leads all D-Men in QOC the last 3 years (Toughest minutes).

He'll probably be asking for 6-7M himself. Look at some of the contracts handed to d-men last season, and this year's crop is even worse. Franson is one of the bright stars of the UFA pool.

Boychuck is day and night better then franson. And if you look at boychucks work as a number #1(admittedly small sample size) is comparable if not better then Dion. So yes tech you could get a Dion in ufa.
So getting back to my question, would you move 2 1sts to rid yourselves of Clarkson?

Boychuck, while not being as good as Phaneuf, is definitely better than Franson, I'm not arguing. I'm saying once you look one name down on the list of UFAs, things get a lot more dismal, meaning Boychuk stands to make a huge raise, if he gets to UFA.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Boychuk went into next season with an even larger contract than Phaneuf's.

Lots of teams have similar problems. Bonino although a nice player who is probably gonna come close to 50 pts is not a 2nd line center. He's there due to lack of options. Ditto for bozak as the #1 center in Toronto.

No way LA gives up another roster player if that's what you're thinking and no way does LA trade any top prospect to land Phaneuf, at least not during the season. Offseason anything can happen but obviously LA needs to trade for a Dman now

Phaneuf on the other hand is a #1 d-man playing in that role, the problem is he's had an assortment of AHLers and bottom pairing d-men to play with for the last few years.
