He was playing an extremely physical role, had 9 points in 11 games, and was one of the few players who showed up in the NJ series.

He had the Pens ready to commit murder...good times. Damn good times. Remember when he absolutely freight-trained...Craig Adams, maybe? And that was when James Neal lost his poop

He creamed Adams in Game 1. There was another hit in that game, can't remember who though. Game 3 was when he ran over Paul Martin and Asham cross-checked him in the throat.

Those were good times! Sadly, it seems like ages ago.

So many key players are gone from that run. Briere, Hartnell, Timonen, talbot, Jagr to name a few. You don't lose all that mojo and just think that everything will be fine.

He's got to get consistency to his game, though. I don't think he's ever had a stretch of near dominant play like JvR showed at times as a Flyer, which isn't an awful thing, but if he can't do that, then he needs to be more consistent.

He needs to simplify his game, especially if he stays with Giroux and Voracek. Go to the net, keep his stick on the ice and be ready. Those two will find you and you will get points from that.

Agreed. He needs to be...I don't want to say a "passenger" as that sounds wrong, but he needs to just ride with them. Play hard, go to the "dirty" areas, and be ready.

Even if he just does what Hartnell did, it'd be more helpful than how he's played.

He's got size, he's willing to get his nose dirty he can work hard...he just needs to stop worrying about things he can't control and just go play

Zepp is starting. Got to wonder if Emery is waived after Mason returns

I wouldn't waive him. Try to keep him until the TDL, and then waive him.

Might not have the roster space to keep all three when Mason is off the IR

Wow, Very good question. I'd be surprised if he's waived. When Mason is back, he'll get the bulk of the work.. Emery may be better suited for riding the pine in that situation. If they love Zepp, Let Ray walk at Season's end and keep Zepp.

Then I'd send Zepp down for the time being and then recall him after the TDL. No sense in losing Emery for nothing at this point when there is a small potential for a return.

Also, I'd prefer Zepp get more AHL time if they see him as a potential NHL backup next year.

emery is shot I also believe. so until mason returns who do you play more? him or zepp?

At this point I want to lose games as no use being middle lower end. So i say play emery.

why not try any mac on the pk in a more prominent role. cant be that much worse.

I'd try to trade Emery, or waive him, keep Zepp and split the starts 60-40 in favor of Mason. Might as well see how Zepp plays with a bit more workload and if he's really a viable option for back up next season.

What else can you do? Why ride Mason like a rented mule the rest of the way? Give him enough starts to stay sharp, and get a thorough evaluation of Zepp and how he handles it.

Like I said, I'd keep Emery until the TDL. Maybe someone bites (Nashville almost lost Rinne, maybe someone does go down for the season). He could fetch (maybe) a 5th or 6th, even a 7th.

I'd be surprised if Emery got them any return, with the way he's played since November.

They do have to figure out if they can ride with Zepp next year in the backup role. Could definitely save some dollars if he holds up

I agree. Still, there's a chance. If you waive him, you're effectively saying he has 0 value. Which may be true, but I'd try to let someone else say otherwise.

The rub for me is, I've gone from thinking emery might get a 4th at the TDL to thinking that nobody would even give up a 7th for him. I'd like to see Zepp play more, get a full understanding of what he can do in the NHL and see if a semi-regular workload can be handled.

I get that, but at the same time what's more important? Seeing if Zepp is a viable option for next year or trying to finagle a 7th rounder out of Emery?

Although keeping and playing Emery probably helps draft position

They need to know; I'm not one to freak out over backup goaltenders, and I actually admire Ray Emery, but sometimes, when the ride's over, it's over, and Razor might be at a point where he just can't overcome the physical limitations

I'd keep Zepp in the AHL for now and give him the bulk of the workload. After the TDL, you call up Zepp and split his starts with Mason. You basically demote Emery to AHL backup or at least split-starter with Stolarz.
