Yup. "Try harder" and "want it more" ain't gonna do poop when your 1C is Tyler Bozak, or your 1D is Mark Streit and you're driving a hearse lugging the likes of Clarkson, Vinny, Umberger, Robidas, etc around.

I say do that, pull the tender off the opening faceoff and try to score 6 goals a game (while giving up 30).. Hey, the league wants more offense.

I don't like their back check most nights, but to me it's more the lack of attention to detail on ....simple thinks like getting the puck deep...gaps between the d and forwards....boxing out guys in the d zone in front of the net.....these are the same mistakes every game...fine in October , not so much in January....and yes talent after the top 4-5 guys isn't very deep.

I agree. It's simple, little fundamental things that lead to the troubles. Very poor execution.

For instance, a bad pass out of the zone gets picked off at the blue line, that's not poor effort, it's a guy making a dumb mistake. It leads to guys having to race back to the zone and running around, again, not effort, it's poor fundamentals that lead to wasted effort.

Got me on how to fix it, short of replacing guys. They get a good forecheck against them, and guys can't execute. They end up wasting energy chasing the puck and then it seems like they aren't giving a good effort.

At least that's how I see it, for the most part. there's games where they lack intensity and seem disinterested. But for the most part the bad execution kills them

Absolutely; a deficit of skill and speed can often look like lack of effort

You have to be more specific.
We have too many Schenn's who do too many infuriating things.

As opposed to...getting strafed at ES? At least the +/- numbers would look better on the PK.

Yes. Clean 3 on 2 and they don't even generate a shot at the net

Good passing into zone, between Giroux, Voracek and MDZ. Pass goes to Schenn, puck goes under his stick and out of zone, blowing a potential scoring chance. Fundamental mistake costs the Flyers an opportunity

I think they do miss Hartnell on that PP. There has been quite few times this year where Schenn has whiffed where Hartnell used to bury those opportunities

No where near as much as they miss Timonen, but yeah, I agree
