this team is (frank)ed till snider dies and the brain damaged bullies are removed from management. - JoeRussomanno
I'm not a fan of this good ole boys network. I think Hextalls time served outside of the Organization will serve him well. He's got a monumental task, I hope he's up for it. The fact he hasn't done anything rash to this point is a good sign I think. |

I still go with Amaro. He took the keys to a Lamborghini and drove it into a wall. Holmgren took over a 1974 Mustang with rust and a wheezy engine, restored it into showroom condition and then drove it into a wall.
But at least he restored the damned thing first - Jsaquella
He did get Halladay to make them the best team in the league regular season even if they bowed out in the first round. That 2012 team was the best one. The flyers cup run was like the 93 phillies one hit wonder. I think the highest in the conference the flyers finished under holmer was 5th? I could be wrong there |

Cheer up guys. We are playing horrible and are in a slump. You get to carve us up like a Thanksgiving turkey tomorrow, or Christmas ham, whatever. We suck currently. |

Agreed. I like the patience and building through the draft approach. As I said yesterday, build the core of the team via the draft and use FA and trades to fill holes.

He got Halladay and traded Lee in the same motion, and dumped Lee for a string of B prospects. Even when he did something good he managed to make a mistake in doing it. |

Ironically, it's Coots' inability to score on the PP that is holding him back in the Selke voting, lol. - Tomahawk
If ghost pans out to be the PP QB I think he will, Couts will get his PP points in a year or two. If they haven't traded Cout's by the time ghost gets up here. |

Got into a debate with my buddy whose a big phillies fan who the worst Philly GM since 1990 and up is. Obviously he took amaro and I took holmer. I sealed the deal with bringing bryz into the equation. He had no rebuttle - Just5
You're both wrong.
It's Ed Wade or Harry Gamble, by a long shot. |

It's part of it. Couturier does need to produce more when he gets a chance-PP, etc., but he's had it beat into his head so long that he's got to be a shut down guy it's got to be hard for him to not worry about D first - Jsaquella
Production would come with better linemates and easier minutes.
The 2nd PP features studs like Umberger, Read and VL. They aren't bad once they're set up. They have real trouble getting set up though. |

I'll take Wade over Gamble by a mile. I'm pretty sure under Wade's watch the Phils drafted Hamels, Utley, Rollins and Howard.

Wade was a good builder, but at the MLB level he was awful. But a lot of the 2008 team was drafted and developed by Wade. |

It would, for sure. I'd like to see Couturier produce a bit more now is all I'm saying. Not that he needs to be putting up 50 points in his current usage. |

Joe wants to remove the brain dead Bullies from the management team and then make the same kind of trades Holmgren made at the end of his run as GM - Jsaquella
It's just a move they can't be shortsighted and make. They have to know that. I want them to be aggressive, not reckless and ridiculous

I'd give credit to Mike Arbuckle for those draft picks before I'd give it to Ed Wade.
Arbuckle should have been the GM after Gillick. |

They won the division in 10/11 (second-best in the conference). |

How about this: If the Flyers ever give this kid two wingers who a) aren't old, b) can skate, c) can score and d) play defense, all at the same time, and he doesn't put up 50-60 points, then by all means, trade him. Do it.
But do you really want to trade this guy and watch another team do exactly that? Because that is exactly what is going to happen if they move him. - AllInForFlyers
u guys act like the desire to trade him to fill a more pressing need is villifying him, it isnt. my god hes a third line center for christsakes get over it. |

I would also like to see Brayden Schenn turn in work commensurate with a Top 6 forward on a regular basis. |

Pretty much. The thing that was Amaro's biggest fault was overpaying. He overpaid for Pence and Oswalt via trade, jumped the gun on signing Papelbon, Howard and Byrd (to a lesser extent). Then the Lee trade which was a vast overpayment for the prospects they received. Don't forget the fiasco with Domingo Santana. The Phillies were just making moves without thinking sort of like how the Flyers just acquired the best players regardless of what they actually needed. |

People talk about the Flyers only hiring from "within the family"......The Amaro hire is nepotism personified. |
