It would, for sure. I'd like to see Couturier produce a bit more now is all I'm saying. Not that he needs to be putting up 50 points in his current usage. - Jsaquella
I'd like to see him with different linemates for the rest of the season. I mean, what the hell, they're going nowhere this year so who cares if they have a "shutdown" line. Go with:
Raffl-G-Jake
Schenn-Coots-Simmonds
Umberger-Laughton-Read
VDV-Bellemare-Vinny

I would also like to see Brayden Schenn turn in work commensurate with a Top 6 forward on a regular basis. - johndewar
How dare you speak ill of Braydon Schenn. He dominated years ago at the WJC against 19-year-olds. Flat-out elite player. |

Joe wants to remove the brain dead Bullies from the management team and then make the same kind of trades Holmgren made at the end of his run as GM - Jsaquella
getting a number one dman is the kind of move homer made at the end of his tenure? sorry i missed that one. |

I was just joking, but I'm open to moving Couturier in a deal/package for a stud D, but not much less. - Jsaquella
I wouldn't do it before I got a better look at Sanheim, see if he's a legit top-pair candidate. In other words, not before 2017 at the earliest
Wish they would double down on the kid instead of always making him carry people

Agreed. Arbuckle goes to KC in 2008, in 2014, they're in a World Series. Guy is a damned good evaluator. - Jsaquella
Royals had a lot of high picks though. And that team was a bit of fluke for getting to the World Series last year. Yost is kind of a terrible manager. |

u guys act like the desire to trade him to fill a more pressing need is villifying him, it isnt. my god hes a third line center for christsakes get over it. - JoeRussomanno
He's only a third liner because of how he's been used by the Flyers. Buried in a defensive role, playing(this season) with subpar line mates...can't expect anyone to produce in his situation |

Islanders fans will have puddles at their feet from the tears rolling down their collective faces. If only they had kept A-Mac. What might have been. - PLindbergh31
AMac on their third pair in place of Brian Strait would make them a better team, but not for the free agent dollars he signed for. And Strait is only playing because of injury to another starter. We should trade them Grossmann for a 2nd since they gave us two dmen. It's only fair to reciprocate once in a while. |

Nope, trading youth and future assets to make a mediocre team a little bit better, filling one hole to create another. |

They did. It was a fluke, but they still played well enough to do it, and a lot of the key guys were added by Arbuckle. |

Schenn is put into a position to succeed offensively but he puts up so-so numbers. He may not even score 20 goals this year playing on the 1st and 2nd lines and 1st PP unit. That's not inspiring. In his defense though, anything other than the top line is pretty much an offensive dead zone. |

I didn't say you vilified him; he's a third-line center because that's how they use him here, against every metric that says he could be more.
JVR was on the third line here, too. Patrick Sharp never cracked anything above the fourth. How's that working out for the Flyers |

Pretty much. The thing that was Amaro's biggest fault was overpaying. He overpaid for Pence and Oswalt via trade, jumped the gun on signing Papelbon, Howard and Byrd (to a lesser extent). Then the Lee trade which was a vast overpayment for the prospects they received. Don't forget the fiasco with Domingo Santana. The Phillies were just making moves without thinking sort of like how the Flyers just acquired the best players regardless of what they actually needed. - NickTheKid87

Not saying it isn't, but I'm not eager to move him. I'd be shopping for a defenseman, not shopping Couturier, which is how you make it sound.

I still want Billy Beane in Philly. Guy works magic with pennies. Imagine if he had the Phillies budget. He won't leave the As unless he's fired though. |

Nobody's saying they shouldn't fill that position. But creating a hole in one part of the hull to fill a hole in another part of the hull doesn't move the team forward. |

They need to fill that position with the correct player. Not by giving Andrew MacDonald a 6-year, $30-million deal while giving away future assets.
Had he traded a first rounder and some young prospects for a legit #1 (even Jay Bouwmeester) that's a different story. Hell, you can fill spots with anyone, but it needs to be the right players. If you give up valuable young assets without making a position of weakness better, you're just shifting your weakness from one area to another. |

OT and all, but Clinton-Dix's squirrel arm on that late 2-point conversion beats the two by Ricky Watters in the "For who? For what?" game by a long shot.

Yeah, I'm far more concerned with Brayden Schenn and his scoring-or lack thereof-than Sean Couturier's. |

He was drafted.
I remember when they drafted him in the 2nd round. They had 2 picks in the 2nd round and took Jackson later. People asked why they didn't use their first 2nd round pick on Jackson to ensure they got him. The Eagles said they didn't because they REALLY liked Laws. |

Mike Vick was brought in as a back-up to Kolb and made the Pro Bowl one year. IMO, that was a good signing. Vince Young was a back-up and they got Rodgers-Cromartie for Kolb which was a pretty good deal. Babin made the pro bowl too although he was a mess in the end. Smith was depth and Lawes too (drafted). Nnamdi though...in his defense he wasn't utilized correctly but he was definitely a "let's get the best guy regardless" signing. |

I'd give credit to Mike Arbuckle for those draft picks before I'd give it to Ed Wade.
Arbuckle should have been the GM after Gillick. - johndewar
This is true. Wade is certainly in the running |

They brought in Vick while they still had McNabb, I thought. |
