Look, my only point is that it was a stupid hit that put the team short handed for 5 minutesand made the team play with 11 forwards for the last 45 minutes. If he'd hit him hard but clean and injured him, well, that's hockey. It's a rough game. But why the need to throw a dirty hit and deliberately try to injure a guy? What if he ended Letang's career and ruined his quality of life like what happened to Primeau? Is that a good thing?

He took a run and leapt into the back of a guy facing (not turning into) the boards. It wasn't a clean hard check under any rules.

And what if that 5-minute penalty yielded 2 goals (it came a post from yielding 1)? Is it still worth it, at the time, not knowing if your league-worst penalty kill will kill it or not?

Because if you do, you'd be a hypocrite.

it maybe a penalty, imo only cause it was a tad late, but years ago flyerfans especially wouldve appreciated it.

Look, Read's admittedly having a bad year. No 2 ways about it. But before this year, when he was no injured, he was a consistent 20-goal scorer (pro-rated for 12/13) who was a top-notch penalty killer, was one of the fastest players on the team, and formed a great shutdown duo with Couturier.

I tend to believe that those 3 years are the norm compared to the 40-game sample of this season. And I believe that, if this is simply an abberation and/or due to injury, that his skill set brings more to the table than Downie simply because down fights people and leads the league in PIM.

my policy has always been you gotta protect yourself first and foremost, if they get a lovetap like letang got i wont cry no. in fact i doubt hes reslly that injured and only taken out of the game because of how overly cautious yet contradicting the league's concussion policy is.

Considering his output it's 1:46 per game more then he deserves.

He not only ranks 9th on his team in PP ice time, he ranks 278th in the NHL in PP ice time. Read doesn't get a ton of PP ice time. Read has never been a big PP point producer. His ES point production in past seasons has been outstanding for the role and the situations he plays in.

You got the wrong guy Joe if you think I hate Rinaldo. I have defended him numerous times on this board to the posts that claimed he is a useless no talent player. If it was a half second earlier, it's still a boarding call. Any elbow thrown at a Flyer on a different play, doesn't change what the Rinaldo hit was.

this is true of you not hating him ill agree on that. im sorry but our guys and their guys threw dirty hits all game, hell i even saw a replay of crosby getting cross checked in the ribs. couldve broken a rib and punctured a lung. is a suspension getting handed out for that one? no of course not, hell you could probably even level aggravated assault charges on some of these plays considering a hockey stick is being used as a weapon. but no rinaldo has a reputation and despite the fact the flyers won the game flyer fans have to harp on what he did as if it will right the wrongs of the last 30 + years
