You can decline? Wish things worked like that in the real world.

They'll only accept a skype call into the hearing. |

do we need to revisit james neal 2012 playoffs? - JoeRussomanno
Oh, so you want to use the kid excuse of, "Well they did it first?"
James Neal is a cheap, dirty player. Not sure why that excuses Rinaldo or justifies in any way shape or form what he did. |

I could be wrong, but he might have meant Neal hit the suspension checklist and threw an elbow at Giroux and only got one game |

you're missing my point. he only got that much of a penalty cause of his name. james neal went around for like a whole shift throwing those hits before an arm even went up. as far as cheap and dirty just about every player out there is doing something dirty at one point or another. |

Yes, that's why when the DoPS releases the statement, it says they offered the player an in-person hearing. The player still has a hearing either way. Carcillo declined his in-person hearing when he broke Perreault's arm. |

Guess it saves the guys on the board the trouble of stifling their cries of 'dippoop' and 'bumhole'.

In my opinion if Claude Giroux leveled the same hit, he would've gotten a 5 minute major and a game misconduct also.

Not missing your point. Neal has started to earn more and more of a rep as a dirty player.
Rinaldo spent a year in the AHL and had more suspensions than goals. |

So you thinking reputation is a valid reason to extend suspensions? |

If you know you're going to get hammered, why spend the time traveling to New York? Just easier to pick up the phone, get suspended for 8 games and move on with life.

Repeat offender status certainly is.

Fair enough, but I still think the hit should be the primary focus when suspending someone |

Nope. I think repeatedly committing suspendable and fineable acts is a valid reason to get a longer suspension.
I think that a guy with a reputation as a dirty player should not get the benefit of the doubt from refs, unless he actually makes an effort to change as a player. I have zero issue with a guy like Rinaldo getting called more closely than a player who doesn't have a reputation as a thug. |

I get that, but I'm thinking that a disciplinary hearing oughta be mandatory.
