The most ridiculous thing said on here today was that "Letang was admiring his pass" -- hope that isn't Rinaldo's defense during the phone hearing - AllInForFlyers
One inclined to do so could make a point that Letang may have put himself in a bit of a vulnerable position in watching his pass while continuing to face the side boards, so I'm not surprised to hear the old hockey expression, "admiring his pass", here, but under current rules, the onus is on the player making the hit to try and avoid it if the target is in a vulnerable position..that said, I think the disciplinary committee might at least slightly factor in whether or not the player being hit was doing something that made himself purposefully vulnerable. |

The NHL has all the technology available to look at a hit or any play from various angles. How could they get it wrong? - MJL

i agree. perhaps letang made himself a little more vulnerable than he should have. but at the same time, he may have not been expecting to get hit because of the whole no longer having the puck thing. its not as if he was driving to the net with his dead down. |

that lindros sure was a wee little boy. - stayinthefnnet
Huge wussy. Definitely not a man, because he couldn't play through blinding headaches, dizzy spells, nausea and motor control issues like a real man.
Keith Primeau, another huge wussy. Still having symptoms 10 years later. Get a dress.
Chris Pronger. He should open a boutique and give out make up hints. Hope he can join the girl scouts. |

its not strawman you continually have faith in various personnel based on position, I personally know many ifthese positions are political in nature and therefore cannot be relied on for unbiased motive free of alteriors. |

I think that would be a factor if Letang had turned at the last second, but Letang's back was facing Rinaldo the entire time, and Rinaldo took multiple strides while Letang was in the position he was in. Rinaldo had plenty of time to pull up on the hit. |

no but some have stronger chins than others. - JoeRussomanno
So give me an example of someone with a stronger chin in the NHL that hasn't had a concussion over the course of their full career.
You probably won't be able to find anyone but I just want to know who the stronger people are. |

youre right i cant just take all physical contact out of the game, b/c injuries will happen and itsgetting too fast paced for guys to make a decision in the blink of an eye on not to lay a hit or not. |

And that is relevant on what planet? Obviously they aren't real men, because they suffered concussions and had their careers ended by them. Just like you said, separate the men from the boys. Obviously, Lindros, Pronger and Primeau aren't men.

oh i agree. im just trying to explain why he may in fact be in a vulnerable position. typically a person isnt expecting to get drilled a few moments after makng a pass.
i know full well rinaldo had time. wouldnt expect anything less. its what hes out there for. he literally doesnt need a stick. |

its relevant cause you went on about how rinaldos hit was such a travesty and how dirty players should be out of the league etc etc... |

oh i know. its brutal. its tough to find good places to go out in philly. and the vast majority of people in their earily to mid 20s are vapid (frank)ups who flock to places like that.
needless to say, the hockey conversations are typically IQ reducers. |

you should be able to plaster a guy who is right up against the boards...i have a problem with it if the guy is 3-5 feet from the boards and gets sent into the boards, head first or otherwise.
i see why it's a penalty (refs see rinaldo and in that split second think he hit numbers which is understandable at that speed)
not sure i like the call but i get it |

It would be relevant if I actually did that. The trouble is, I didn't. What I actually said, several times, was that the combination of the repeated incidents, Rinaldo's cavalier attitude about about last night's incident despite knowing full well he was going to be suspended and his disregard for the situation he put his teammates in as well as the fact that he's, at best a borderline NHL player are all contributing factors.
I've said that the hit last night was not especially egregious, in and of itself, and if that was the only incident on Rinaldo's record, it'd be no big deal. But hey, if you want to go on about reality, at least get what I said sort of correct. |
