I understand that sentiment, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do. He makes them a much better team.

But given his age, if someone came with a strong offer (1st rounder or high-level prospect) I'd be more inclined to deal him.

He's not nearly as good as Streit, but they could give Del Zotto more minutes.

- bradleyc4

Del Zotto is already playing 20+ minutes a game lately. I think the Flyers still have to a put a team on the ice next season, and they shouldn't give any seasons away.

The issue with Streit isn't his performance, he's played well, it's his age and contract term. Not sure a contending team would want to take it on, in addition to giving up considerable assets.
- PLindbergh31

Love his PP production, but his ES + defensive play are lacking -- two areas that the team needs to improve on asap. They tend to give up a ton of scoring chances when he's on the ice.

If they can get something good for him and lose the contract, that's a win win.

For what's he done this season, I think a playoff team with a need would be willing to give up at least a 1st rounder for him.
- bradleyc4

Maybe a conditional pick, similar to what Kaberle got. The extra years are a blessing and a curse.

Streit holds his own defensively, add his puck skills and point production to the mix, and he's a pretty solid defenseman.

I don't disagree. If a contender lost their playoff QB for the rest of the season perhaps it's possible. Hmmm... Do the Flyers play the Penguins before the TDL. Unleash Rinaldo on Letang again.

Do you think Gotisbehere is ready to replace Streit on the first PP next year?
Or do you see them going for someone like Mike Green to replace him?
Or are you writing off next season without Streit at the point and looking towards improving the team ~3-4 years for now?

Serious question.

Trade streit. Overpay for UFA on short deal

re Streit:
They are going nowhere this year, and I can't see any way that they are a contender next year. Heck, I would be surprised if they are even a strong contender in 16-17. With that in mind, if someone is willing to give up a 1st for Streit, you have to make that deal. Worrying about who is going to qb next year's pp, shouldn't be a factor in the decision.

Yeah, that poop could break loose and end up in his lungs again, right?
- Tomahawk

Yes that is why he has to stay on blood thinners.
The question is would they let him play while taking meds
There are several forms of blood thinners and sone may be less risky then others regarding the risk of bleeding from an injury during a game

If I were kimmo I would not take the risk of having a brain hemorrhage just to play another game

No (frank)ing chance

I think I would be looking for a cheaper alternative than Green. If they can get some dead weight off the books (Grossmann, Umberger, Lecavalier), they might be more in a position to make a 1 or 2-year deal to a guy like Green.

Either way, no way I would start next season with Ghost on PP1. Get his feet wet with PP2/3rd pairing at ES minutes.

Making a pitch of a 1-2 year deal for a guy like Green wouldn't even get a conversation started.

As a lay person, I would think it's cut and dry, but it still seems like they're exploring ways of him playing again. Just a feeling I get.
- MJL

Eh.

I hear what you're saying, but if you're talking about his recent check up, I wouldn't really call that a way of exploring ways to get him on the ice.

I think it's pretty logical to think the mindset here is to first get rid of the clots. Once they clear, the next step is to decide if hockey is safe or not. Maybe they'll suspend treatment. Maybe they'll do something goofy as Marc brought up with injections like enoxaparin or fondaparinux, spread out such that they straddle game times and maybe decrease bleeding risk. I don't know if that's legit or not. I've never heard of them being used that way, but what do I know.

Bottom line is the prospect of hockey again is going to clearly be on the back burner until the clots are gone. It's definitely a cross the bridge when we get there ordeal.

They know he still has clots in his legs, and Hextall has said they have all the information but need a few days to look at it, as it's from multiple doctors. That tells me that they are exploring how they can let him play.

If Ghost is going to be a full-time player, I'd give him a shot at PP1 if Streit is gone. He has the speed to recover if he makes a mistake, which is not true of Streit and, in the last few years, Kimmo.

Well but if you have poop in your lungs, blood clots should be the least of your worries

But that's precisely the point. Which is why I said in a post I just made that pretty much the only priority right now is to zap those (frank)ers right between the eyes.

Once they're gone, then we MAYBE weigh the possibility of lacing up again. Maybe.

As Marc said though- exerting a professional sport caliber effort on blood thinners is pretty risky.

With all the skate cuts recently, I'd agree. Imagine Kimmo getting a MDZ across the neck.

Who knows.

Guys like zidlicky and visnovsky come to mind on one year deals.
