I'm late here today and I am sure this was talked about already but the below comment by Rinaldo bothers me and I am not a Rinaldo hater like most. He is VERY lucky the Flyers killed off the 5 mins. that could have totally put the game out of reach had the pens capitalized on it.
Rinaldo on why he thinks the hit ultimately had a positive impact on his team: "I changed the whole game. Who knows what the game would have been like if I didn’t do what I did?”

Oh my god it was brutal I was laughing out loud at how much the announcers favored the pens. lmao great game though. Love our little frenchie beatin the hell outta farnham. "really classy of farnham to not hit bellemare".... yeah because PEB had just whooped his a**.... that's why he didn't hit him lol |

For those that wonder why the Flyers don't play other teams with that kind of emotion like they do the Pens. The Flyers don't get under the skin of other teams and other teams don't react the same either. The Pens have yet to learn their lesson and keep trying to beat the Flyers at their own game. You aren't going to be the Rags,Wings, Hawks,Blues etc etc etc in that regard. Those teams know they are more talented and use that talent to win. The Pens are a far more talented team than the Flyers but are just too stupid to realize it. - Daveflyers36
I disagree..
IF (notice its a big if) and when the Flyers bring that style of play.. the chippy, in your face, dont (frank) with us style of play.. they are successful. I have said a number of times this year that this team is wayyy too soft. Last night they were the opposite. You need that piss and vinegar when you are not the most skilled team.
Play with emotion. Back up your teammates. The Laughton hit (while clean) is still a hit where you would like to see someone react to it. It was a higher hit, not the guys lid off, and injured him. Clean or not, you cant just shrug. Thats the biggest difference I see with this team and teams of the past. We get pushed around all the time this season. Crazy. |

Farnham did at least refrain from pummeling PEB when he was standing over him...that's not to say he didn't give him a few jabs when PEB was flat on his back.
And can someone tell me why Farnham didn't get an extra 2 for removing his helmet? - jmatchett383

i was wondering that myself. maybe cuz he doesnt wear a visor? im not clear on that rule.
also, was it downie that grabbed schenns visor during their fight? or was that another fight? is tha a extra two, kinda like afask masking penalty? - Briere
The rule is that purposely taking off tour helmet prior to a fight in a 2 minute minor. Btw, PEB should have tossed his after Farnham did.
And yes, it was Downie, and that's why he got 9 total PIM on that sequence. |

They're acting like that because he's a Flyer.. - Hextall271
no doubt it was a bad hit and rinaldo brings very little to the table outside of his borderline play, but where was all the indignation when brooks orpik tried to put b schenn's head through the glass last year with an elbow to the head after skating about 30 ft into the hit (iirc)? no penalty on that play and no whisper of supplemental discipline let alone all the crying from da burg |

If Laughton is healthy the next game's lines will probably be:
Raffl-G-Voracek
Schenn-Laughton-Simmonds
Umberger-Couturier-Read
VdV-Bellemare-Vinny
If he's not, White might get called up and scramble everything. - Feanor
Works for me, if Laughton is unable to go, I'd go with:
Raffl-G-Jake
Schenn-Vinny-Simmonds
Corpse-Coots-Read
VDV-Bellemare-White
I think that could also be their 4th line next year. |

The chippy in your face style will only get you so far. The Pens are a team that are easily pushed around. Many teams in the league are not and are not easily knocked off their game. The Flyers need more talent up front and on D for the style you suggest to turn to long term success. |

VdV is a mystery to me. He's not a good skater. He's not very gifted offensively. Yet somehow, he has 6 goals. He is basically Patrick Thoresen, with luck (right down to the fact that they were both Oilers' cast-offs). |

not to mention that style more often than not leads to the flyers being shorthanded for about 19 minutes a game |

That is what preceded his comment.
"And to see all those fights in the second period..."
To me, that's him saying his hit led to all the fighting. |

You're not going to face many teams who have struggled as badly as the Pens have on the PP, too: ~9% since early November. |

And with out the leagues leading point getter. As much as I loved what Voracek did, I don't want him missing 17 minutes of the game. |

I don't know if a guy with no history of fighting is obliged to take a penalty and remove his helmet if an AHL goon comes after him. If our AHL goon Rinaldo tried to fight Perron and took off his helmet, should Perron do the same thing? |

THis is absolutely true. I do however think that the team needs to bring more of an effort on a conisistent basis. There have been many games this year that I swear they have only been going through the motions and it's horrible to watch. |

The 09/10 team played that way, but as you said, they had the talent up and down the lineup (aside for the 3rd D pairing) to back it up. You need talented players who can play that way. The Flyers have talented players and guys who can play that way, but not many who cross over into both realms. |

disagree strongly. Flyers play very well when the game is chippy. For whatever it gets them going on all cylinders.

The Flyers did not outplay the Pens. They were outshot 17-3 at one point. The game didn't change until the physical stuff started. The pens went 0-6 on the pp against the worst pk in the league. That was the difference in the game, not the Flyers outplaying the Pens. |

That is fine but most teams are smart enough not to get engage the Flyers in that way so the Flyers just end up in the box and most likely lose the game. You can't just be a chippy team. |
