The 09/10 team played that way, but as you said, they had the talent up and down the lineup (aside for the 3rd D pairing) to back it up. You need talented players who can play that way. The Flyers have talented players and guys who can play that way, but not many who cross over into both realms.
- jmatchett383

Jeff Carters best games came when he played with a chip on his shoulder. Giroux is incredibly dangerous at all times, and when he has a chip on his shoulder he is nearly unstoppable. We have seen what Voracek and Couts do when they are fired up.

What really needs to happen is that they need to play that way all the time. Play angry. Play with emotion. Skill is lacking throughout the lineup so you have to work that much harder. Bellemare said it. When they get back from the break, they need to play that style. Will they maintain that for a whole season. Nope. No team can. But they need to play angry hockey.

disagree strongly. Flyers play very well when the game is chippy. For whatever it gets them going on all cylinders.
- KGBflyers10

But very few teams will play that chippy style. Boston will, because they do it better than the Flyers do. That's about it, though.

Exactly because in the end, you still have to play hockey.

Agreed. They need to play every game like it's Game 7 of a playoff series, because they basically all are.

I mean, um, TANK!

The Flyers did not outplay the Pens. They were outshot 17-3 at one point. The game didn't change until the physical stuff started. The pens went 0-6 on the pp against the worst pk in the league. That was the difference in the game, not the Flyers outplaying the Pens.
- Daveflyers36

the shots ended up close to even so i think the flyers did outplay them at least from the time of the 17-3 shot advantage

So Rinaldo is a pooplord

but otherwise, I'd be lying if I said that wasn't the most fun I've had all season.

- BulliesPhan87

Weren't you just making a case the other day for Rinaldo's intangibles, heart, hustle etc??? He certainly proved your case last night.

They outshot them, but not a lot of those shots were good scoring chances. Emery made some nice saves and had some luck. Pens dictated most of the play.

I agree but outside of Giroux and Voracek, there isn't much on the talent side. You can argue Simmonds but he is more of a PP scorer but after that? You still need guys that can play.

The truly limiting factor to me is that even if they bring this style, their D just isn't good enough. I watched closely last night and the fumbling and bumbling of passes between D, and between D and forwards just shows me that they don't have what it takes. All those little errors add up and eithe cause turnovers directly or waste effort. Until that gets fixed, there can't be any consisitency even if they're fired up.

Im thinking the Oilers are going to want whoever they are trading with to send a 1st back the other way.

Rinaldo solidified his place on my list of Flyers players I can't stand.

Get. Rid. Of. Him.

- Scoob

He has zero place in the NHL. The fact the Flyers employ this clown is downright embarrassing.

This is the right attitude. Now look at pens fans with downie 'I wish we had more of these guys'

Downie is also on my list of Flyers I didn't/don't like.

Coburn and B Schenn are 1st round picks. So they're actually getting 2 of them.

I'm not sure if it's been discussed in between the Rinaldo talk, but I thought Brandon Manning had a really solid game. 17:20 TOI and about 5:30 of that was spent killing penalties. Seemed to play a simple, effective game.

And Akeson was sent back down... so kind of leads to the belief that it's not really about roles. For whatever reason, they like Zac over Akeson, no matter the circumstance.
- Tomahawk

Sure it is when Rinaldo has been a 4th line low minute player for the overwhelming majority of his career. They like Rinaldo over Akeson as a 4th line player. Next year if Morin or Gostisbehere starts the season in the AHL, does that mean they like the defenseman that make the team over those two, or is it about the circumstances and a number of variables involved?

I knew you'd make some lame comment that reflected zero comprehension of what I was saying. My nitpick specifically was with you're lame "only the Flyers have that kind of guy" comment, and it still rings true.

excellent work bro

Yep.. that comes to mind, but more than that.. Luke fumbles routine passes a lot. Another exchange between 2 d behind the net resulted in Ray having to block the errant pass from bouncing into the slot.. and this was with little pressure. It's always like that and it expends energy for no reason.
