I'll diss Riley Cote till the day I die. |

Absolutely. Any person who says they wouldn't want Crosby on their team is either a misguided fool or a liar. - jmatchett383

Can I say the Flyers have never valued fighting over skill? No, I can't. But just because something has happened in the past has nothing to do with things moving forward in the present/future. Can you also acknowledge that the Penguins have, in the past, employed some goons/dirty players (Loney, Ulfie, Kasparitis) and have, at times in the very recent past, had players whose actions fell into that category?
The fact is that ALL TEAMS have had players like that. The skillful Red Wings had guys like Kocur, Probert, and McCarty. The thing is that Flyers fans no longer want the "Broad Street Bullies" label because it quite frankly is no longer true, so yes, we get a bit upset, much like when Flyers fans call Crosby Sidney Crysby or bring up how Mark Recchi called him a baby, etc. - jmatchett383
didn't watch much of kocur, but probert and mccarty were known more for being fighters, not necessarily for being cheap-shot artists. |

He doesn't whine NEARLY as much as he did when he first came into the league. Like the "Broad Street Bullies" image, it's an old label on the current model. |

I think we're kind of proving out the reasoning for the NHL's unwillingness to address these types of games by posting well over 500 entries to a frikin blog.
This kinda stuff stirs emotions, interest, etc.. Exactly the reason why the NHL allows this crap to continue.
Lets face it, many of the hardcore fans expect this kind of activity in their NHL game. Cant wussify the NHL right?
We're all kind of being hypocrites by talking about it. - 87_71_11_29
It's not hypocritical to try to address an issue. The facts must be faced.
I'm sure there were plenty of fans yesterday who hoped they would see a Penguin leave the game in a heap, just like there are nascar fans who really like crashes. Oh, and those who really like cheap domestic lager in the broad of daylight.
The Shawn Thornton waiting for six days to fight Matt Cooke in Boston thing created national riptides. It's super bush league. There are fans who get off on this; if they stopped watching because the NHL decided that having a fight was not the best way to prevent injury, that would be alright.
That's the plight of the NHL. Crisp, beautiful passes don't get airtime. That double-bird Flyers fan and Carcillo do. Chris Simon stomping on Jarkko Ruutu and Sean Avery do. The NHL really can't try to have it both ways. |

I believe "goons" would be the term, even though Probert broke Gordie Howe's playoff scoring record and McCarty turned into a reliable 2nd line player. |

For me, this isn't even really about the Flyers. They're not without their warts, obviously, but the Flyers are hardly a goon squad. poop, we've been watching an awfully soft team so far this year.
What I'm driving at here is that a lot of the media and a good portion of the audible Pens fanbase seems to think the Flyers are the source of all earthly violence, and it's laughably misguided. The Pens own their sins, even if many don't want to accept it. - BulliesPhan87
Let me tell you about this one time I was in Philly and a flyer fan yelled pens suck at someone with a pens hat on and you are trying tell me your fan base isn't the source of all earthly violence? Yeah, OKAY!!! |

No but seriously I was down Philly with a license plate frame of Pens and I got at ticket 1 minute after my meter ran up and on the back it said go flyers. I couldn't help but laugh cause that's awesome. |

The last time I was in Philadelphia, it was a windy day. A man's hat blew off toward me and I retrieved it, handing it to him. He threatened me.

i suppose that's fair, but i think the term 'enforcer' better fits their style, if there is much of a difference. last i heard of mccarty he was 'gooning' it up at that pawnshop from that terrible hardcore pawn show. i stopped in there once. they weren't filming and mccarty wasn't there. i promptly left to avoid being stabbed. |

That's actually pretty funny. I just have this image of the cop just standing there, screaming at the meter to go faster. |

You obviously dont live in Philly.
We dont have cops checking meters here. We have meter fairies that pop up out of nowhere and lower the parking violation boom. |
