Pretty amazing that guy could play 1054 games and not learn a damn thing about hockey.

Wasn't it a 14-17 game suspension that finally convinced Matt Cooke to stop elbowing people in the head?
- Feanor

Yeah, he graduated to slicing players achilles tendons with his skate.

No doubt, but if a player feels his knees were targeted, he is going to take exception to it.

Let me ask you a question, if a Flyers defenseman leveled the same hit that Scuderi did on Voracek, on Sidney Crosby, do you think Crosby or one of the other Pens on the ice would take exception to it?

- MJL

Yes, certainly Crosby would. He doesn't expect to be touched.

The team would probably do something superficial. They really didn't do anything when Letang was hit, they ignored Bortuzzo as well. They ignored Dubinsky and Johnson for an entire series when they were roughing up Sid, then Staal in NY.

Objectively though if it's Barrett Jackman laying that hit on Kopitar and LA goes after him, I'm wondering why Kopitar thought he could get away with making that play.

im not gonna get back into the hit that shocked the world from the other night but i will say this after giving it some thought, bill; i dont agree with your reasoning on hextall's staying silent on it. he knows saying anything in support of the hit throws fuel on the fire and if he really felt it was bad, it would serve better to cone out and say it.

How bout having one of these kind of guys coaching a team?
- PLindbergh31

Still not sure what a coach' playing career has to do with his coaching ability.

I mentioned it before and no one responded. When Ballard put a hip check on Malkin and Malkin flipped over him, Crosby went over to Ballard and fought him. He was hailed as a "Great captain who stood up for his teammate," and not as a goon picking a fight for a clean hit. Can't have it both ways.

I didn't see that incident. Sid fought Keith Ballard?

Malkin does shady poop all the time. He's like dirty Fedorov.

That Ballard hit was cheap as hell, went right at Malkins knees.

Remember when Zac attacked Roussel out of the blue and put the Flyers down a man for 7mins?

I still want to know what caused Rinaldo to go ape poop crazy right o the drop of the puck that game.

Agree to disagree, if Ballard got any lower he would be on his hands and knees.

No, but I can cite coaches who never played in the NHL who won Cups. If their playing experience translated to their coaching, they players should have not played.

Or I can give you Darryl Sutter, who was a pretty good scoring forward, who has coached a conservative defense-oriented team to 2 Cups in 3 years.

Or we can use Peter Laviolette, a career minor league forward with a career-high of 13 goals who preaches an offensive-oriented system.

Not the same hit, then. Malkin with his head down, controlling the puck with his feet across the blue line doesn't help his cause here. Malkin can't expect to make that play.

Super low hit by Ballard though. Comes under and up.

It looks dirty at first, but if you go to the replay at 0:55 and stop it when Malkin's horizontal, you can see Ballard's hips are touching Malkin's.

The one that gets me for Malkin is when he jumped a Detroit player with no time left in the 2008 SCF and received an instigator penalty, which is a NQA automatic 1-game suspension that was somehow overlooked.

I'm saying it was dirty. I'm laughing at the broadcasters for defending such a ridiculously dangerous hit

We have plenty of players who can fight, NHL and AHL. If we really wanted to "send a message" we could have brought up Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond. Now that is a goon
- znagle

Well hopefully the Penguins recall him before the next Flyers game so we won't have to listen to a host of estrogen-fueled menstrual whining from our poor sister to the West.
