I object to this witness being called at this time. We've been given no prior notice he'd testify. No discovery of any tests he's conducted or reports he's prepared. And as the court is aware, the defense is entitled to advance notice of any witness who will testify, particularly to those who will give scientific evidence, so that we can properly prepare for cross-examination, as well as to give the defense an opportunity to have the witness's reports reviewed by a defense expert, who might then be in a position to contradict the veracity of his conclusions. - jmatchett383

They have a fairly good vottom-6, which was what cost them in 12/13. Their defense is the best it's been in years, probably on par with 08/09. MAF finally remembered how to play in April.
The only thing holding them back is injuries, especially the one to Maata. - jmatchett383
Team checking. Team play actually. Shift by shift the scoring is done largely by individual plays on the rush by one of three or four really stellar players. The Pens are a really terrible even strength team. Not having Tanner Glass helps. |

Ehrhoff and Paul Martin are pretty good, very underrated I think.
Adding Perron was big.
Losing Maatta hurts though.
Dupuis is done. - Marc D
I loved it when B.Schenn smoked him in the 2012 playoffs.
Oh and Asham (Penguin) crosschecks him in the throat and back of the head....but the Flyers are dirty goons, so..... |

Just saying that before all of you're fellow Pens fans start calling for Rinaldo and the Flyers organization to be crucified, they should look at what their organization and its players do. Cry me a river. |

Rinaldo can go long stretches where he's effective (as much as he can be) where he gets in on the forecheck, makes a few big hits, and plays a more or less adequate fundamental game.
But when you factor in the needless penalties he takes and the fact that he strays from the "clean" aspect with some of his hits, his level of skill is not worth his liability. - jmatchett383
The league did a fairly tidy job of making enforcers irrelevant. Whether it was PR or not, it's for the better. Fighting is stupid but not as stupid as having a bottom six on each roster who doesn't care about player safety as some kind of spark plug. |

Exactly, there's not a team in the old Patrick/new Metro that never employed a goon or thugs. Where I get bugged is not when somebody chimes in that the Flyers have had plenty of guys that played nasty, dirty hockey, but when they act as if their team is above reproach.
Penguins, Flyers, Devils, Rangers, Isles, Caps...all have dirty hands in this area. It the jack offs that seem to think Dejan Kovacevic is gospel that fail to realize this. |

Idiots like Rinaldo need to be slammed hard by the league. No more 6 game suspensions, when you've had 8 previous suspensions. At some point the league and PA need to get together and say this is enough, guys like Carcillo lose the privilege of playing in the NHL. |

Its a part of hockey and always has been. If there are two willing combatants than it's great, entertaining and holds its place in keeping players accountable for their actions on the ice. Boxing is stupid.......because they fight.
Intentional head shot artists like Stevens. I have no respect for.
The Matt Cookes of the league, have no place in any sport. |

I don't think it's a matter of controlling himself. It's a matter of if he can play hockey well enough on an NHL level. He clearly can't. |

You would have said the same about Roussel when Dallas first called him up from the Texas Stars. But he's made himself into a player, and Rinaldo has just about the same raw materials and work ethic. Just have to question whether Rinaldo has the gray matter. |

The NHL should really just start handing out ridiculous suspensions. I wouldn't be mad at 20 games for Rinaldo.
This poop would end if they penalized players accurately. The dumbass rule about getting fewer games if the guy isn't hurt is dumb too. |

He's got the raw tools, and I've seen him make some nifty plays in NHL games. His skating is very good.
He's just never produced at any level, he runs around too much when he's called on to play defense. It's not just when it comes to reckless hits that he's got discipline issues, he can't stick within the system for an extended period, either.
That's why I hated him on the PK. Far too easy to get him running around and out of position. |

I think he gets 6-8 tops. |

I'd be ok if they tacked on the number of times you've been suspended to games. So this would be a 3 game suspension but you've been suspended twice before so it's 5 (or more) games. Eventually repeat offendors wouldn't be able to find a contract in the NHL because one suspendable act and you'd be sitting half the season. Of course the NHLPA wouldn't buy into something like that. |
