Shawn Tilger is the COO. You haven't given one legitimate reason why he doesn't have as much power as I might think. Secondly, just because you claim that you've worked in an AHL front office, doesn't mean you have any more insight into how much power or responsibility Holmgren has, then I do. The janitor who cleans the toilets at night can also claim he works in an AHL front office. No offense intended, and not saying that applies to you.

Funny you mention that, I believe that is now part of Holmgren's responsibilities!

Maybe. They also have scouts for that, and it seems that ultimately Hexy is making the calls.

But you're right, perhaps 'power' is the wrong word, let's call it responsibilities, of which Homer almost certainly has quite a bit less now.

I bet that Holmgren is quite busy, just on the business side, rather then the hockey side. I also have no doubt that Hextall picks his brain from time to time on hockey decisions.

Correct. For the Flyers.

David A Scott is the COO/President of Comcast Spectacore

He is handling more of the business side that Lukko left.

Per philly article in December:

"Even a year later, the next tremors from the fallout will only begin to be felt in the new year, when new Comcast-Spectacor COO/president David A. Scott implements his vision for the business side of the team and Wells Fargo Center after months of contemplation."

It is correct that Holmgren is not directly involved with player personell. I disagree that going from GM to Team President isn't a promotion. Team President is higher in the corporate heirarchy to GM. And there is zero basis to claim that he likely just sits in his office hoping the phone rings.
- MJL

I'm seriously not getting the train of thought that Holmgren's position is somehow ceremonial. Or that he has no say or input on personnel decisions. That is just silly IMO.

The discussion is about the Flyers front office, not the parent company. Go to the Flyers website and click on Front Office, David A Scott is not listed.

I don't think he has no power I just don't think he has this great power now that he is president. And some of the Stuff Luukko did he doesn't do either. So I don;t think he just moved right into Luukko's position.

A career hockey guy gets blindsided and is completely removed from hockey ops... yeah, I'd say he got put out to pasture.

Here's a job I'd like to see Homer do for the rest of this season.

Hershey?

I would hope not. He admitted he was going into w/ zero experience and would be relying heavily on the various dept heads. Wouldn't be surprised if his days were mostly spent playing golf w/ business partners.

Did you know that the Hershey Bears were originally the Hershey Bars?!?!?

I think he is more of an overseer. Kind of Snider's eyes and ears in the day to day operations.. Holmgren is obviously someone Snider trusts.

I don't agree again. The GM is in the Hockey operations department. Holmgren is the Team President and took over for Peter Luukko. As team President, Holmgren absolutely has power, but is on the business side of the team. As far as player and roster diecisions go, Hextall is in control and that, and Holmgren is not directly involved, with the exception perhaps of being a sounding board.
- MJL

I know what position Tilger holds. I am talking about the position Luukko held. Holmgren is not really taking over for what exactly Lukko did. That is what David Scott is handling.

You're right, Holmgren did not take over as President of Comcast-Spectacor, which is what Luukko did. I was mistaken about that. That doesn't change that Holmgren is not just a figure head with a title.

No worries Sir...

Phils are in for a rough season. They have to rebuild. Pretty solid run. They were good for about half a dozen years and won a World Series. Can't complain about that.

He grew up in Central NJ. Edison to be exact. As did Tom Dwan.
Ivy played poker in casinos in AC as an 18 year old. He was known as no home Jerome. I have a friend who knows him fairly well. He used to sleep under the piers in AC. Pretty amazing he went from that to being worth 300 million dollars.

I am not saying he is just a figure head. He probably is a sounding board like you said for Hextall and probably is in meetings seeing what revenue they might be able to bring into the team and Wells fargo center. I was comparing it to Roseman. They technically got promotions. But it wasn't like they just got all this power. That is all.
