That's the most logical thing to do. Let the goalie do his job, don't do it for him kinda thing. Block the shot when it's the best option, not just try to block for the sake of blocking. - NickTheKid87
Staying on your feet not only helps you recover quicker defensively, but also means you're in better position to recover the puck and transition it, too.
Coaches like Babcock, Sutter, Q have been preaching that poop for years. |

I doubt Hextall would take the GM gig if Holmgren had power of any consequence whatsoever. - johndewar
I don't agree again. The GM is in the Hockey operations department. Holmgren is the Team President and took over for Peter Luukko. As team President, Holmgren absolutely has power, but is on the business side of the team. As far as player and roster diecisions go, Hextall is in control and that, and Holmgren is not directly involved, with the exception perhaps of being a sounding board. |

No question, majority of times if you leave your feet, you're done.

Probably not - ob18
Yeah, it depends on who picks them, too. Maybe Hanifin gets thrown right in if he goes to Edmonton. Less likely if it's Phoenix or Jersey. |

They knew Ghostisbehere would only be up for a few games, and was only called up due to injury. My point is they should do what is best for the player. - MJL
And I am not saying they shouldn't do that either. But you also will never know until you see them against that competition. After the TDL if the Flyers are so far back what really would there to be there to lose. I think one reason you won't see Cousins and Leirer is if the Phantoms are contending to get into the playoffs. |

The only time I'd go down is on a cross-ice 2-on-1. Timonen was a master at this. But if you do it, you'd better hope your teammates are backchecking hard, because you're not gaining puck possession. |

Have you ever worked in a front office? You know how many guys are kept around as "consultants", "advisers", kept around on the "business side".
A lot of the time it is because they are under contract and getting paid anyways and they are liked so they keep around so not to look like they are just moving them out.
Yes they might still do some things for the team but not nearly what you might think/ - J35Bacher
Really, Holmgren is not a consutant or an advisor. He is the team President.

May not be able to know with 100% certainty, but they have a good idea if a player is ready or not. A player shouldn't be brought up if they don't think he is ready. |

Timonen is the master at this. And part of it is because I "think" he makes a conscious effort to not take an angle that would have him sliding into his own goalie and taking both of them out of the play.

Gostisbehere needs to get cleared and into game shape before he's even ready for the AHL again this year. I doubt he and/or Alt and/or Hagg see any significant time in the NHL this year unless it's the last 6-8 games and the Phantoms are out. Same for the forwards. |

Not totally accurate. Didn't David Scott take over the business side? I believe it is his vision they are going to be implementing on the business side of the team. |

I think Eichel will stay in college for another year
I think Strome & Zacha have a solid chance - ob18
Will Eichel make that known to all the NHL teams before the draft? Would it effect where he's drafted? |

No, he always angled his body so he'd slide to the side of the net that the puck carrier was on. That way, you don't hit the goalie, and your body can help to stop a second cross-crease pass. |

They want Hagg`s contract to slide so if we even see him it won't be for anymore than 9 games |

Not NHL but yes I have worked in the AHL front office. I worked in player operations and game night operations
I know what Holmgren title is.
I also understand how the structure works. |

I would think it wouldn't be that hard to determine that a guy playing in the AHL would be ready to take the next step to the NHL, even for a short stint. These guys, IE the coaches, front office, and scouts, are professionals after all.

I'm sure both won't make that call right now, plenty of time to make it. I would also think teams won't be scared off by it either. |

Would you have traded Bobrovsky, Leighton, and a 3rd for Mason, Stolarz, Leier, and 1/2 season of Gagne? Because I certainly would, at this point. - jmatchett383
Absolutely. Bob gets too much credit. Good goalie, but he isn't this superstar like he is made out to be. |

It's funny how the media works. He had a strong run in the lockout shortened season, now he's a star goalie. I'd take Mason at his salary over Bobrovsky and his future contracts. |
