I was Director of Player Personnel for the Primo Pizza 8-10 year olds in the Brigantine Hockey League for a few seasons.

Peter Lukko was the President and COO.
Holmgren was promoted to president but the COO part was what David Scott took over. It is his ideas they plan to implement on the business side moving forward. I am not saying Holmgren is just a figure head. But I don't think he has as much power on the business side as you might think.
It was a team with 75 years of history in the AHL. - J35Bacher
Holmgren has a very important function as President in the Flyer organization.
Not only does take up space in the office so Jay Snider can't return , but he also curls all the paper clips back that Senior Vice President Bob Clarke straightens out.

I think there may be confusion between "no power" and "no power in roster decisions". I think he has less power than Hextall in terms of personnel but is definitely consulted, especially when drafting, which he's been pretty good at for the most part. - NickTheKid87
Maybe. They also have scouts for that, and it seems that ultimately Hexy is making the calls.
But you're right, perhaps 'power' is the wrong word, let's call it responsibilities, of which Homer almost certainly has quite a bit less now. |

From what scouts are saying, Eichel staying at BU for his Sophomore year is a long shot. He may choose too though but many say he is NHL ready. - NickTheKid87
If he does leave and they don't think he'll for whatever reason not make the team he'd have to go to Saint John in the QMJHL & so far for years he's turned them down over and over. |

Honestly he was the best dman I've seen in my relatively short life in those 2-1 situations. What a great (frank)in player he was, man. The best Dman in the league that no one knew about. - Giroux_Is_God
Used to say the same thing about Jimmy Watson in the late 70s and Desjardins in the mid and late 90s

Good point. He may want to stay in college if he isn't 100% sure he'll make the NHL roster for the long haul. Depends on who drafts him too. |

For some reason i think the Flyers kind of used them as an ECHL team for one season when they didn't have one.

He definitely has less on the personnel side but he is probably heavily involving in advising and such. I don't think it's purely a figurehead position though. He'd be getting paid a lot of money just to show up at events. |

I thought that too. i didn't know who had his rights.
I mean Sonny Milano decided against college so he could go to Columbus training camp and try to make the team. I am pretty sure he is in Plymouth |

As a dman, I think he'll go back to BC regardless. But Eichel is an interesting case. Many scouts are saying he'd go #1 in any non-Crosby/McDavid draft. That would put him up there with Tavares, Stamkos, Yakupov, Ovechkin, Nash, MacKinnon, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Kane and all these guys stepped in and made an impact, some more than others. |

Shawn Tilger is the COO. You haven't given one legitimate reason why he doesn't have as much power as I might think. Secondly, just because you claim that you've worked in an AHL front office, doesn't mean you have any more insight into how much power or responsibility Holmgren has, then I do. The janitor who cleans the toilets at night can also claim he works in an AHL front office. No offense intended, and not saying that applies to you. |

They were polite and loyal to Homer, but in my opinion his title holds next to no power and he isn't involved with player personnel, the meat of the operation. He likely just sits in his office and looks out the window hoping for a phone call to make him feel important.
There's no way - none - you go from GM to team president and call it a promotion in any way but title. Of course, maybe Homer wanted out, and in that case it was win/win for him. - wolfhounds
It is correct that Holmgren is not directly involved with player personell. I disagree that going from GM to Team President isn't a promotion. Team President is higher in the corporate heirarchy to GM. And there is zero basis to claim that he likely just sits in his office hoping the phone rings. |
