He used to have some fire in his game despite his size, he is a leader and a decent defensive option. Maybe we could swing a Nikitin for Richards deal and then buy him out if he doesn't do what we need. - Dangles13
Kings wouldn't want no high salary player back, they're up against the cap & have UFA's Williams & Stoll to re-sign & their RFA's to re-sign Clifford, Toffoli, & Pearson inthe offseason. Plus a Kopitar extension to work out.
I just feel Dangles there's way cheaper versions of what Richards can bring. Stay away from other peoples garbage. |

Trust me, why would you want a bottom 6 forward at a 5.75 cap hit for 5 more seasons of a player on the decline. - SJSharks39
Isn't the cap hit halved for waiver pick ups? Or is that not a thing? |

That's for reentry waivers I believe.
This is sending down waivers.
We could wait and hope that's what happens,;but if we are in fact interested, I doubt that works |

Ahh fair enough. I think we should jump on him. He fills multiple roles that we are currently in dire need of. |

Its 3 more seasons after this one at 5.75m. Whatever you go with him for another full season or 2 and see if he improves, if not you can always buy him out.
Nevermind NHL numbers doesnt go that far, hes signed longer than that...(frank) do I miss Cap Geek - DDM-Coga

I'd love the depth and used to be a big fan of the player he was.
I haven't seen enough of him to really know. He was extremely solid in their first cup win and plays well against us.....
I dunno. I think we need to dump salary before we can afford to take that gamble |

Thats why I think he might go unclaimed. Waivers will doing the Kings a huge favour. If hes in the minors he still counts something like 4.8m against that cap.
If they want to get rid of him so the can add a Dman, they probably would have to take a garbage contract back and deal with it...enter Nikitin |

This might be right. I was using a reference of pre lockout, so it very well may have changed.

If we could part ways with nikitin, I do this in a heartbeat.
Worry about season 3 later.
Buy the fuker out if we need to down the line.
how much of the buyout counts against ur cap?[/img] |

If he was bought out this summer, buying out Richards would’ve cost the Kings $19.33 million over 12 years.
if you bought him out with 3 years left on a contract, Richards would get 2/3 of the salary left on the contract dispersed over I believe double the amount of years left on the contract (5-6 seasons) |

But wouldn't he mess up your cap situation? 5.75 cap hit is a big hit. Just wouldn't be a smart move IMO, to me it's a very short sighted move. When in offseason you can sign somebody to do exactly what Richards would provide at lets say 2mil. |

Hmmm
So he'd be costing us 11.5 over 6 years...(if we pay/play him for 2 seasons beyond this one)
Just under 2 per against the cap
I strongly consider it if we can give nikitin back. Otherwise I don't think so.
plus, if they're thinking if resigning Roy, I'd assume they feel he might do for the squad some of what Richards would at half the price and a third of the term

The more I think about the more I say stay away. He' would be a mediocre/good add at a low cap hit, but at 5.7 I say barf.
This in the Oilers, we'll have to overpay someone else eventually, we don't need the cap headache. Especially if the cap goes down.

Sinces it a front loaded deal, he gets paid 7m salary this year and 6m salary next...after that it starts to really drop down. But with his contract there is the recaptures penalties if he is forced to return early (shouldnt be a worry though)
You give him a shot till the 2016/17 season, thats when his buyout hit would be dramatically less. Its not the worst gamble if you can move nikitin (who would probably be good for them on the 3rd pairing)
It depends on what you want to do with Leon, if he isnt penciled into the roster for next season, then you are going to set your C as Nuge, Roy, Richards for 1-2 years until the kid or team is ready. |

The cap is going to be at the 72m range next season from what Bettman was saying at the allstar game.
The UFA C market is weak too if im not mistaken, so if thats still a priority, maybe its worth the gamble now and deal with it in 1-2 seasons. |

I see him as the new Horcoff. And I think the Oilers could still use a Horcoff-like player. |
