I go off the NWS Mt Holly site. They're not trumping it up for ratings, they're just a humble bunch of scientists with few cameras on them.

Yup. I'm hoping they are wrong. It's ZERO fun doing my job in bad snow. Truck loses traction, wind makes it hard to work elevated, and a lot more dangerous if other idiots are on the road. Even when we cone off areas and uses flashers, other drivers sometimes will miss the 6 inches of snow on the ground and drive like it's 65 and sunny. |

Depends on what work I get assigned. If I'm working in businesses or doing my primary functions, I'm indoors for 90% of the day. But if the schedule is filled with normal run of the mill stuff, I could end up on the other end of the scale.
The last time we got knocked off for weather was Sandy & Irene, because they evacuated the county. |

I work for the Great Satan, Comcast.
We actually got hit less down here for both hurricanes than up north did. For both storms, our relatives got far worse than we did. For Irene, I stayed with my Bro in law in Sewell(#23 Rob who posted here in the past), Lost power, basement flooded a bit..sucked. Got home afterward-we had not damage and no power loss.
For Sandy we stayed, but had offers to stay at my mother in law's(in Cape May), Sewell(again), Medford(mom's), Spotswood(up near New Brunswick) & Warminster(dad's).
We lost power for a few seconds several times, but had no damage. Mother in law lost power for 24 hours, as did brother in law in Sewell. Mom was out for 2 days and my dad was out for three weeks. My brother in law fared even worse-4 weeks without power.
We had some pretty radical damage along the beaches. There was a two block section of Cape May's Beach Ave under about 6-8 feet of sand. We were sent down to survey the damage, the street signs came up to our knees. Stop signs completely buried, Fish on front steps.
I'll post the photos some day, it was nuts

yeah. i was still in college during sandy. and that was out by allentown in PA and they still basically were forced to shut down all operations. we had a day/night where everything was down. was actually one of the best night of college. all lights out, stocked up on candles and booze, and ended up having a fairly fun night.
its always odd how sometimes those things can generate cool memories, but yet given the choice, no one would willingly go without power or plumbing.

ugh. i have an assignment right now based around a telecommunications contract dispute between two canadian companies. the level of semantics is akin to pulling teeth.

i'm sure i can write a brief somehow blaming this on comcast. |

Everyone else does. The last few months have been a nightmare. Rollout issues on new products and a cross over to a new system for billing have caused some troubles. |

Sad part is, a huge part of the rates being so high is the cost of sports programming or at least that's what I have been told. I wouldn't have half of the channels I have without discounts for being an employee.
I watch the Flyers, Phillies, NHL Network, NBCSports, NBC(when hockey is on) TCM & the history channels. I watch far more hockey on my tablet or laptop than I do through the cable boxes. I use my Amazon prime and Netflix more than I use on demand through my cable box. I do record movies off HBO & what not, but I rarely watch any of the programming live. |

yeah I dont have HBO or anything like that. The shows seem cool, but I just cant justify that expense to myself right now. The internet actually makes up a fairly significant portion of the bill, and thats just pretty much a necessary utility in today's world. |

Yeah, part of the push for net neutrality is centered on the net being a utility, not a luxury.
They've talked for year about al a carte, but the outrageous fees for sports would not help the bigger providers. People always complain to me about the 8 Spanish channels, but I tell them, that they cost pennies for Comcast to carry. I ask, do you watch sports? They say yeah, and I say that's where a big chunk of your cash is going. |

to be fair, female doging to you about it seems sort of unfair and misplaced anyway haha. your job seems more like the guy who comes out to make sure the overpriced product is actually working, as opposed to the person constructing the business model.
it makes no sense to complain to the plumber who comes out to fix your flooded sink that your water bill is too high.
although i guess the average person just redirects and female doges to whoever is there haha |

And I'm gonna drag my sorry ass to bed. I feel terrible, got no sleep last night, had a long drive and finally feel like I can pass out.

All part of the job. I tell people the truth. I don't trash Comcast, but I definitely don't BS them. Saves a lot of time and effort. Lot of times the sales people make promises that I can't keep.
I'm off anyhow. I'm going to pass out |
