All I said is for a cap hit of 8 mil Toronto can keep him because he is the exact reason you don't build around a winger.


He can have all the individual accolades all he wants. IMO the fact remains as long as he is in Toronto making that kind of money that team will go nowhere. I want no part of him on this team as when the time comes, his contract means someone else can't get signed. His deal goes to 2022 or the age of 34. History has taught us that most goal scores start the decline in that 30-31 range. That's a tone of cap space for a guy that very well won't be scoring at the rate he is now.

It sounds like you're knocking the guy because he's not Stamkos... He's still the 5th highest point scorer and 4th leading goal scorer in the NHL since 2010. There are only 13 people since 2010 that have scored 300 points or more, and he's 5th overall.

That just rings of the whole "If Buffalo won the cup, people would piss and moan that it wasn't a sweep" sort of argument.

And he does it in Toronto with all the pressure, the worse teammates than Stamkos has had, etc.

Richards isn't in the same category as Kessel in the goal scoring department IMO.


Richards is also making a ton less than Kessel


Richards could be had for a waiver claim of like 5700 bucks.

Kessel will cost you a few 1sts along with top prospects.

No way shape or form should the future be mortgaged for Kessel. Toronto can keep him.
