How is Richards "broken down"? That's a term I've seen used to describe an injured/feeble kind of person, not a guy who is just not performing (and again, he still has 15 points playing with bad linemates on LA's 4th line). - stashu
Symantecs. "In serious and prolonged decline"?

St. Louis is over the hill ??? really ? - SABRES 89 Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in a second over Richards. The point is that the vets are around at a much cheaper price.

Oh wow, Dustin Brown is having a crap year (again). LA should strip him of his C and if no one trades for him then waive him because he sucks.
HB logic.
Tell me the difference between Dustin Brown's .5ppg and slew-footing/kneeing/diving and Mike Richards's .4ppg, overall clean play and sound defensive game?
One was drafted by the team, one was traded for. One is the "Captain" and one is not. It has nothing to do with anything, really. But if you have a good, yes Mike Richards is good, center buried on a deep, under-performing team, on the 4th line no less, who cannot seem to score with career 4th liners and 10 minutes a night why pay him 5.5m when you can pay a guy under 1m to do the same thing? Why does someone HAVE to trade for the guy? It is LA's fault the stocked the cupboards too full and now they have to donate some to the food pantry because why the hell would anyone buy it? He is a victim of circumstance.
Quick note: LA's blogger seems to be under the impression that if he isn't picked up by another team he can be bought out this summer. Is this so? |

He won't be, I posted something about it yesterday. I don't think they like the contract. - SABRES 89
This is a serious question. I'm not anywhere near as familiar with the CBA Rules as a lot of you guys are.
If we pick up Richards on waivers, and decide in years 3, 4 and 5 that the juice isn't worth the squeeze, why cant we just waive him too? Do we get still stuck with the cap hit or something? |

I really think we are going back and fourth about Richards for nothing, i'm sure the Sabres won't claim him and if they do i'll like it but be shocked at the same time. $5.75 isn't bad but the years are the killer. We are in the group of about 5 teams that can take him on. |

He can be bought out yes, It will count against LA's salary cap though unlike Leino and Ehrhoff. |

Any player can be bought out in the summer, but it will count against their cap - half cap hit per year for twice the term I believe. |

Any player can be waived, barring if they negotiated a NMC into their contract
He can be waived anytime, but it won't mean anyone would pick him up, especially if he's playing poor enough to be waived in 3, 4 or 5 years. |

Yes, because you can't simply waive a player and leave him on waivers. If he's not claimed within 24 hours, you either have to reclaim him, send him to the minors, or buy him out. All three of those scenarios count against your cap. |

HB logic? No, it is the logic of the GM that has one two of the last three cups (and then every GM that has passed on him. You must know something that they don't.
From what I've read (not my opinion) there has always been a bit of an undercurrent of unhappiness with Brown's regular season play.

So the real issue isn't what his salary is for the next 5 years, but rather his caphit.
It's $5.75M. For comparison purposes, Moulson's cap hit is $5M for 4 years.
Richards: 47 5 10 15

Cannot believe SF let that guy walk just because of a 7-9 season. Granted, he is the guy who MADE COLIN KAEPERNICK a starting QB but still. Turned Alex Smith into a good QB, took his team to the SB and lost to his brother in an obvious Ray Lewis jerk-fest by the NFL and the team really didn't play terrible this year, just didn't play good and lost some games that could have went either way.
