So the real issue isn't what his salary is for the next 5 years, but rather his caphit.
It's $5.75M. - Der Kaiser
Right. If we come to the conclusion (as LA has already done) that we would be better off paying him not to play for us then we'd be on the hook for that for years to come. I think some people yesterday got that confused with the hit that LA would take if he retires. |

If the Sabres don't put in a claim for Richards I expect the media to start crying that they are tanking on purpose again. - Pierceme69
Too late? When Buffalo is at the bottom of the standings, they're horrible and tanking. When it's Edmonton for years, Calgary low for years, Florida....they just suck |

It's $5.75M. For comparison purposes, Moulson's cap hit is $5M for 4 years.
Richards: 47 5 10 15
Moulson: 44 7 13 20 - Der Kaiser
Exactly. The hit is slightly less if you buy him out, but for a longer period of time. |

Quite the contrary. Most of the media is yelling for the Sabres to stay away from him. He's busted. Or for you semantics lovers, he's not playing at the ability in which he used to play. |

I was being a goof. Playing thru MGS4 finally. Just got to Shadow Moses again. Great game so far and the most straight-to-the-point entry in the series. My god MGS2 is all over the place.

As much as the fans would want to do this based on this year alone, it's really not a good idea. He's too young to simply throw away. Gotta give him another year or two to turn it around. |

Just as Christian Ehrhoff's contract still counts against the Sabres' cap. The Sabres are paying him, and getting a hit on their cap for, around $850,000 per year for the next 15 years. I wish my company would pay me that much not to show up to work for the next 15 years. |

Hey now!
P.S. One plays on the 4th line and one plays on the 1st line.

Cannot believe SF let that guy walk just because of a 7-9 season. Granted, he is the guy who MADE COLIN KAEPERNICK a starting QB but still. Turned Alex Smith into a good QB, took his team to the SB and lost to his brother in an obvious Ray Lewis jerk-fest by the NFL and the team really didn't play terrible this year, just didn't play good and lost some games that could have went either way. - DynamicThreads
Rumor was that he was going to be gone regardless of what they did this past season |

I'm not up to par on the whole thing still.
But, why? He was under contract so he couldn't just up and leave so that means it was a decision from above. All I heard was players didn't like him. So what, take your ball and go home you over-paid pieces of crap. |

That's right. Forgot about that.
Still, he gets paid $850,000 per year for the next decade and a half not to show up to work, which makes me jealous. |

I didn't see that anywhere. I see Gerbe for this year but not Hoff. |

Jim Harbaugh is, and always has been, really difficult to get along with. Every employer is going to have to make the decision as to whether it's worth it or not. |

For those of us that dont' want Richards at that cap hit , at what point would it become palatable?
1) They take back Hodgson in a straight-up trade
2) LA throws in a #1 pick this year and we take him with nothing going back (I know, this is far-fetched but we did essentially get a #2 to take Kotalik).
3) LA throws in money so that his cap hit would be ____ a year.
If I had to have him I'd probably take #3 at 2.5 mill a year. Anything more than that isn't worth it to me. |

Not really my point. I make equal to or less than 20k a year to have my hands around dangerous machinery in a job market that offers no advancement, no rewards for hard work or showing up on time with a good attitude and very rarely offers benefits. And at best I can make maybe 4k per year more to answer phones all day. With no opportunity for advancement and a bad back.
Plus, in this case, it was the player that wanted to break contract and pretty much the team saw it.

SPORTSNET: Mike Johnston lists the Nashville Predators, Ottawa Senators, Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers as five clubs who should consider making a claim for Richards. He also cites colleague John Shannon claiming via Twitter the Calgary Flames don’t intend to put in a claim for the Kings center. |
