Right. If we come to the conclusion (as LA has already done) that we would be better off paying him not to play for us then we'd be on the hook for that for years to come. I think some people yesterday got that confused with the hit that LA would take if he retires.

Cannot believe SF let that guy walk just because of a 7-9 season. Granted, he is the guy who MADE COLIN KAEPERNICK a starting QB but still. Turned Alex Smith into a good QB, took his team to the SB and lost to his brother in an obvious Ray Lewis jerk-fest by the NFL and the team really didn't play terrible this year, just didn't play good and lost some games that could have went either way.

1) They take back Hodgson in a straight-up trade

2) LA throws in a #1 pick this year and we take him with nothing going back (I know, this is far-fetched but we did essentially get a #2 to take Kotalik).

3) LA throws in money so that his cap hit would be ____ a year.

If I had to have him I'd probably take #3 at 2.5 mill a year. Anything more than that isn't worth it to me.

I make equal to or less than 20k a year to have my hands around dangerous machinery in a job market that offers no advancement, no rewards for hard work or showing up on time with a good attitude and very rarely offers benefits. And at best I can make maybe 4k per year more to answer phones all day. With no opportunity for advancement and a bad back.

Plus, in this case, it was the player that wanted to break contract and pretty much the team saw it.
