I don't think a Mike Richards could fix this mess on his own.

His cap hit is 5.75M until 2020. That could scare off a few GMs.

Cap hit isn't the worst. I wouldn't want him that long though. I don't like his attitude much.

Mike Richards would be a very nice addition to this team and could help with the rebuild and teaching but, his contract is a mess. 5.75 isn't bad but the years left is the killer.

If we don't take a stab at him I'd bet Edmonton does.

With him at #1 centre you would see so many guys suddenly fit in roles that benefit them.

With him at #1 center you're in deep trouble. I'd take him as a #3 on a smaller and shorter contract. He will be that much worse by the time we are ready to compete. AS others have said, the penalty for him retiring would be debiltating.

He has a career-high of 80 points in 2008-09, but has registered just five goals and 10 assists (15 points) in 47 games this season. The Kings have reportedly tried trading Richards as of late, but the last trade fell through last night. If someone elects to claim him, he comes with a $5.75 million US cap-hit.

I think a lot of people are attracted to Richards because he is better than what we have now. The guy is a staff and has been for years. Why would we want that? Stay the course.

The Kings, yes, that's why this is weird. They should have bought him out before, but now it's too late and they will be in trouble in few years. Will need to win now. Big trade from them soon too...
