M. Richards is a nice player, sure.
But why in the heck would you bring in his outlandish contract that not only upsets the balance of your team's production:salary "scale", but may also actually spark you enough to miss out on McEichel?
McDavid & Eichel with both be much better investments than M. Richards as we forge onto 2020.
Leave M. Richards to Edm... Stay the course. - SuperCat
I don't see him as a major factor in changing the direction of the season. It allows them to move/dump Staff, Stewart, Mez, Benoit, and one of the goalies without worry of going below the cap.
Hell it gets CoHo one foot out the door. |

Not right now he won't. Doesn't the cap hit lessen later on if he comes in through re-entry waivers? |

For an owner like this, the money isn't the issue. The Cap hit is. I'm still of the opinion that any contract longer than three years is a bad one for this team at this stage.
Also, the Sabres will most likely end up having to buy him out down the road. - buffalofan19
He is a great player who now has had 2 teams get rid of him in only a few years. |

TOR/CGY believed to be teams talking recently to LA about Richards trade. Guessing Leafs/Flames were trying to move their bad contracts. |

Gionta by a mile. Cheaper, better character and out of here after a couple more years (if not sooner). - Slump Buster
Gionta retires his hit remains on the books.

Well he was Philly's property for 8 years and this is year 4 in LA.
IMO he and Sutter don't see eye to eye. |

Absolutely. And if/when Richards retires/is sent to the minors then a whole lot of money is on the books. As someone else said, the answer can be "neither". |

If Toronto wanted him, do they publicly say that they want to put a claim in for him? I think no. It would be a bad move for Toronto because of where they are currently, in a tire fire. |
