It just seems to happen more in basketball, football, and baseball. I guess it goes hand-ion-hand with feeding egos with crazy money. They feel the need to show off how good they are past just performing well. Like when a guy hits a homerun and just stands and stares, or when TO ran out to the star in Dallas. I'm not saying hockey players are saints on/off the ice, just that basketball seems to be the league with the biggest amount of over-inflated egos that come out on/off the court. And I have my own reasons for why I think that is.
Is that fair enough? Or am I just making biased, uninformed racist remarks? - jmatchett383
Football players are far worse than basketball players imo. I think you're lumping different groups together. You're thinking of the NBA as Iverson, Marbury, Kobe and others from 5-10 years ago.
The best players in the league are guys like Lebron, Durant, Curry, Davis, Harden, Paul, etc. All of them are incredibly unselfish and have never had any off the court issues.
Guys like Kane and Giroux have more off the ice issues than the best NBA players. |

Vinny has a NMC, but MacDonald has neither, and the Kings would happily take him for Richards if Voynov gets deported. - Feanor
And I'd happily take Richards for Amac, so lets make it happen |

Dribble the ball up court against very little pressure, pass the ball off a few times to a player, with a defender not even contesting the pass, shoot a wide open shot, jog back to the other end. If the shot misses and he rebound is near you, jump for it. - MJL
ok that's enough for me. later guys |

No, I like basketball players who would rather succeed than look good, not the other way around. It's a flash and dazzle league now. Give me college basketball all day. - jmatchett383
i very much agree with what youre coming from in A LOT of ways.
however, some of the points being brought up the other way are very valid. the hawks are a perfect example of this. a large problem is the marketing, and just society in general. i mean we can get into the whole are we dumb because they feed us this poop, or they feed us this poop because they know are dumb selves love to whore in it.
for a good stretch. the nba lost me with its YEAH IM GONNA TAKE IT COAST TO COAST, IGNORE EVERYONE ELSE ON THE COURT AND FLUSH IT WITH AUTHORITY. then glare into the camera with my best gansta impersonation and pound my chest.
but a lot of teams are starting to be better. the hawks are one of the best teams going right now, and they play by contemporary standards, a boring game, relying on the collective unit instead of OH poop HE JUST DUNKED OFF DA BACKBOARD.
the clippers get oodles more time and exposure on sportscenter than the hawks/suns/even the (frank)ing spurs. its a joke. and that is a league/marketing/consumer problem, but good quality basketball does seem to be slowly making its way back. i just think that it isnt as attractive to the average person.

Dude I completely agree. I'm happy you're saying this because most people I talk to don't think that. My buddy works for the bulls and he says 95% of nba players are egotistical fools. He's worked there for 7 years now, he started on the court wiping up sweat for a year, moved to the visitors locker room for 3 years, worked the bulls home locker room for 2 seasons, and now he currently works on the court behind the bench. he's met a ton of the players over the years, and he says he doesn't even bother saying hi to them anymore when he passes any of the players because they just ignore him, act like a jerk to him, or ask him to do a near impossible task in the time limit they want it done. And if he doesn't get it done, he gets his a$$ chewed out by the coach and the player But yeah, the nba is an utter joke, and it's just a bunch of egotistical, overpaid dudes running around pretending to act "thug" on the court. A complete joke. |

If you grew up watching the NBA in the 80's like I did, the NBA of today makes you sick. It's that bad, in my opinion of course. |

That could give us the most expensive 4th line in history next season.

Anyone else really worried about Laughton? Man this kid had the talent of making those around him play better. I realize that this season is shot and he should heal but man it makes me sad that he's out...

This may be true. Honestly, the last time I actually sat down and watched a basketball game longer than 10 minutes was Game 7 vs. Boston. I'll tune in for 5 minutes now and then, but when I see the Sixers are down by 15 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, it's depressing.
Actually, I take that back. By pure chance, I turned on the Finals game about 6 seconds before LeBron's cramps. I watched that game because it was hilarious. |

I'm concerned, but not really worried. Every concussion is different and if he needs a month or two off, then let him have it. |

AMac is more easily moved than Richards. We were lucky enough to move that contract for value a few years back. We need to dump contracts not swap bad for worse. TDL is coming. Hexy needs to have a fire sale and dump two crappy contracts, preferably on D, Vinnie, or Umberger. |

I'd go on another teams board and ask how easy it would be to move Amac. If we could swap the contracts with the Kings retaining the difference in salary, I think the Flyers are better off in that deal. |
