Is Streit more valuable as a trade chip or future roster guy, mike Richards: does he not care or is he simply broken down?, NBA, NHL raises escrow to ensure HRR split, but it apparently means nothing to the cap that the NHL had to raise escrow to ensure a 50-50 split between players and owners |

The usual, except for the scathing review of some of your recent posts. The fun is in the hunt, so we won't be mentioning any page numbers.

The Sixers are more interesting than the Flyers.
Mark Streit is as valuable as Cole Hamels. |

Maybe there is something I'm overlooking, so feel free to explain to me how this adjustment in escrow, is going to affect the trade market. My thinking is that they raised the escrow percentage, because projections were made that the players were getting too much money. As the season goes on, they get a feel for HRR, and adjust accordingly. In the end, whether the escrow stayed at 14%, or was raised or lowered, in the end, the result will be players 50%, owners 50%. How is that escrow change going to affect how much cap space teams have, or how is that escrow percentage change affect the future of the cap?

Call it "cap panic" if you want, but it's not a good sign for the Flyers, or any cap strapped team that might be looking to deal salary away. - Jsaquella
Yup... GM's finally realizing the days of the cap going up 8-9% like clockwork are likely over for the near future.
Move money out while you can, if you can.

Completely unrelated to the players escrow percentage changing, affecting the trade market.
Quick question, did the atmosphere of teams being cautious in spending exist before the raise in the escrow percentage was announced?
Every Summer we see how NHL teams are reluctant to spend money on players.
I'll ask the same question. Whether the players pay more escrow in the first half of the season or the 2nd half, the end result will be a 50/50 split of HRR. How is that change in percentage, going to change the salary cap climate, or the NHL trade market? |

The cap will probably go up-in fact Bettmann has said it will rise-but it's very possible that the growth from year to year will be incremental. Obviously the increased escrow rate means that expected HRR isn't as high as predicted earlier
Further, it was said by a couple of reporters that based on their sources, they wouldn't be surprised to see the next quarter's escrow percentage jump to 20% |
