They have no cap space to take on Stafford and any other player unless they move Green. |

I doubt they move him but i'd give Stafford for him. - SABRES 89
It's too bad GMGM is gone from Washington.
There's no telling who he would have given up for Stafford. |

You can tell by listening to Murray's interview today that he wants McDavid. |

Zadorov says he deserved suspension. Could just be saying the right things but maybe he knows it. Either way it's a start |

I'm a little torn on the Big Z suspension, kinda not his fault if he gets bumped off a flight due to over booking. But Murray made his point. |

Should have booked his flight back a day early in case of troubles like I did on my fight back to Chicago from Buffalo over Christmas. I booked a flight for Sat when work started on Monday in case of problems. |

I'm just sayin, if he had his flight booked and he got bumped, maybe it wasn't his fault. Who knows over and done with now but IMO, I think the way he came into camp and his attitude may have something to do with it. |

I think the one day suspension was fine. If they open up players' ability to be tardy on break returns then you have a banana republic. Unless the reason they are unable to return is due to family or health issues then suspension should be automatic. Not sure if it was how he came into camp and alleged attitude. I bet if Gionta or Gorges showed up late they would have been suspended too, at least they should have been. |

That he came here with the goal of winning the Stanley Cup, but since he got here, doing everything he could to allow Ted Nolan to fail seemed a lot more fun. |

I think an interesting, purely GM for a day type article.
BUILDING A PLAYOFF CONTENDER IN 2015-16
BUFFALO, NY -- A segment of the hockey world believes the Buffalo Sabres are still a few years away from being a playoff contender.
Hockey may be one of the only sports where a team can change its fortunes quickly if proper changes are made (see Islanders).
In this article I put my GM hat on and show you how the Sabres can become a playoff contender next season.
First off, players like Stafford, Stewart, Neuvirth, Strachan, Benoit, and Mitchell will either be traded at this season's deadline or not offered new contracts.
The first step towards the playoffs will take place at the 2015 NHL Draft. The Sabres will most likely land one of the top two forwards in Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. Buffalo finally will have their top center and face of the franchise for the next 10+ years.
Now that the easy part is done, it's time to get to work. I'm going to stay on draft day. Sabres fans will be jumping for joy with the selection of Eichel or McDavid, but the fireworks won't stop there.
My first target going into the offseason will be the Chicago Blackhawks. The contracts of Toews and Kane kick in next season and someone will need to exit the Windy City in order for the Hawks to stay under the salary cap.
My move would be to pry winger Patrick Sharp out of Chicago. Sharp has two seasons remaining on his current deal after this season at $5.9 million per season. He would likely need to put his stamp of approval on a trade to Buffalo, but I think that can be accomplished. Moving Sharp would give the Blackhawks some much needed salary cap relief.
Realizing the Blackhawks cannot take on any salary in the deal for it to work for them, I would send a 2015 1st round pick, 2016 conditional pick, and forward Connor Hurley. The two draft picks will allow the Hawks to help the farm system. Hurley was selected in the 2nd round of the 2013 Draft by the Sabres. He is currently in his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame. Hurley has played well in his first NCAA season and projects out as a 2nd to 3rd line center....more......

Murray said that he will not loose any player for nothing, he will take a 5th or 6th round pick if he has to but won't let them go for nothing. |

Stafford, stewart, mitchell, and probably meszaros should all be pretty easy to move. benoit will be tough. The 3 goalies?- none are playing particularly well, none have proven track records, and enroth and neuvirth are ufas at seasons end. Who is looking for one of those guys- even as a backup, and what would they possibly be willing to give up? |

Not a clue but if you listen to Murray's interview with Kevin Sylvester today he said, he will take a 5th or 6th round pick if he has too. They will not walk for nothing.

I would move both goalies and let Hackett go the rest of the year, I would go in another direction next year in Goal. |

Im fine with that. Or sign one of them. I dont think the goalies are as much the problem as getting outshot 35-22 every game and having historically bad possession stats and special teams. Neither looks like they are gonna be the full time starter going forward Though. Does enroth/neuvirth and a fifth for a third or fourth work? It might be that bad. |
