They were saying on SiriusXM this morning that of the 8 playoff spots available in the East, only nine teams really have a shot at them. If that's true, and I haven't really verified the standings other than the very bottom, every team out of contention should be selling hard. That should make the trade deadline very interesting.

It didn't help that some of the stories in the guy's book were debunked as flat out lies (although most, if not all of them, were stories about being on the homefront than overseas).

So the Kings only saved $925,000 by waiving Richards. That's crazy.

Again we are rebuilding now retooling. He fits nowhere in a rebuild plan. If we were thinking of adding him I'd want to get rid of a contract going to the kings or have them take some of his salary because that is just way to much for a 3rd liner. We already have an aging 3rd liner with a contract that IMO overpays him in Gionta. We do not need another.

I'm not sure where how they would get rid of Gionta. I do think he's a guy that younger guys like McEichel/whoever they end up with, and even Grigorenko and Armia can learn from.

If Tim Murray is the genius that some think he really is, he signed him this year because that was when he would be available. I would have to think he knew Gionta would have very little impact this year. The signing was all about next season and beyond.
