and i love hanging out with old people.

i used to drink at a bar called devone's when i lived in williamstown because it was as close to a VFW as you could get without being a VFW.

drinking with the oldies is great. you can just relax. no fights are gonna break out and you listen to classic rock on the jukebox and eavesdrop on conversations about old cars and wars.

and old people tend to "buy a round" every once in a while. so you get a free drink just for being there. that doesn't happen when you're hanging out at some meathead bar.

(they also had great food over in the restaurant side)

Seems that some of the (Sub)Urban Legend was somewhat distorted... Whelihans, as I stated was definitely a Liquor Store and there was a small bar attached... but I suppose that could have been there rather than added as I remember... which makes sense like the Canals Bar/Liquor Store reverse process I mentioned... While I had thought that the operation was local, I certainly could understand that in fact it was a part of the PA operation... My story was basically true with only the Owner's origin misplaced.

I see what you were talking about and how I had a half-story and had some false facts from local (sub)Urban Legend... and how it all now falls into place.

I still find it interesting though how two Bar/Liquor Store small situations (Whelihans/Canala) can independently make decisions to split their operations and go whole hog in separate operations and both become major Area behemoths that did not compete against each other on their fast and great rise... The PA part does surprise me though as PJ's is still mainly made up of NJ establishments with som PA ones in the mix... Whatever, that dude who spearheaded it made some fantastic decisions and his various chains are very nice and reasonable operations with decent quality goods.

I stand corrected and will adjust my story going forward.

as far as the other PJW restaurants under their umbrella, PA has 1, NJ has 3

so a grand total in the PJW Group of:

PA: 10, NJ: 8

keep (frank)ing with Robert Platzer and his businesses and you'll be humbled

as full disclosure, Mr and Mrs Platzer attended my wedding and I wonder who (frank)ing did the poop food at the reception

I am sad to report that I haven't been keeping up with the PJ openings... Last I checked... quite a while back I imagine... there were only a couple in PA and they had really just started branching out there. The fact that he has decided to widen his Empire has eluded me as I have only care to the Jersey PJ's and umbrella bars that I might visit... I do not go to many bars in PA and the ones I do are not any of those and are more unique than chain type. Since I have not kept a tally I will gladly accept your account.
