Hexy says he will have an announcement on Kimmo in a day or two. Sounds like he might return if I'm reading tea leaves correctly. - PhillySportsGuy
I hope that's right... It'd be great to see him back. Had we not lost him, I think we'd be right there for the playoffs. |

can you imagine if kimmo made a glorious return
and laughton and ghost came back and were amazing
and we made the playoffs somehow
and won the cup
and it started raining money
man, that'd be great |

yay just to help us enough so we pick mid round again - mydoglicks
I think this is more about him going out on his own terms. It's a pride thing. He shouldn't play unless there is 0% chance of the blood clot medication being life threatening if he sustains a cut. |

Then we wouldn't be able to trade to get that 2nd round pick! |

I based it on watching him play, rather then how many times his name was mentioned, or what the stats were. |

Just one of those weird things. I wouldn't be surprised if this just passes and he becomes Matt Read again. It just seems way too weird to have a guy consistently shoot 15% then suddenly drop to 3.4% - PhillySportsGuy
I think having the damaged wheel has hurt his ability to get in to those better, higher % shooting positions. I think he will be fine, maybe not this season, but next season for sure.

This trade may have been proposed here a while back, but what would you guys think about Read to the Jets for a 2nd and the rights to Burmistrov if the Flyers are 10 points out of a playoff spot a month from now? - Feanor
I'd look hard at it -- right now that pick is in the late-40s, but I would look at that one |

Yeah, expected him to drop a few points from above-avg, but definitely not off a cliff like this. Variance is a real MF'er. |

I wouldn't even chance it if I were him. I understand he has a ton of pride, but he has nothing left to prove imo. He'll be remembered as one of the best defenseman in Flyers history. He was the biggest (not only) reason the team was able to rebound so quickly after the season that will not be named imo. |

Some cap relief, top-50 pick, comparable player (likely better), younger... What's not to like?

All those, plus I wonder if Matt Read is truly a third-line player on an elite team.
He's an NHL player, for sure. But I don't know for sure if he is truly the answer on that third line when it gets heavy in the playoffs

Why because he has never succeeded in that role during the playoffs?

That raining money thing could be a possibility.
The rest is too far fetched.

Burmistrov is not even close to being a comparable player to Read when he is healthy ,and would have to prove that he can be comparable or better in the future. I wouldn't be able to say" pass" quick enough |

Partially, but I acknowledge that the sample size is really small.
But he was the fourth line in 2012, not the third. He looked OK last year, but no one truly stood out on the roster.
I like Read as a player, but don't love him, you know? I really would like a bit more size on the wings

Jmo - AllInForFlyers
How good Read is in that role and the situations he plays in, is really underestimated. Read struggling this year, is one of the biggest reasons why the Flyers have had a sub par season. He is an extremely important player for this team. |

He plays shutdown defensive minutes and averages 20+ goals and 40+ points per 82 games. He is definitely a 3rd line winger. He's not a bad 2nd line option either. |
