If Mason was healthy, why didn't he start the game?
How did White look? Didn't see the game last night. 2 straight shootout wins? Insanity!

- PLindbergh31

I saw nothing that led me to believe that Zac Rinaldo should get his job back when he returns from suspension.

Maybe Ryan White can sublet his place in Lehigh Valley to him?

Side note: Whats everyone's opinion on Letang last night coming back soon and racking up 5 assists?

Glad to see he wasn't seriously hurt.

Berube on whether Mason could have started since he felt well enough to back up and played well in relief: "Not really, not in that situation. I think not enough practice time, I know Ray Emery was off for five days too but he finished up playing a game and played well. I thought I wasn’t really too sure about starting Mason.”

And people say he doesn't deserve the Jack Adams Award...

i like wins but i like meaningful wins more. with each win this year i fear that the org-in-ize-ation will start to believe they can make the playoffs this year, the GM will rip off his hextall mask to reveal ol' homer underneath and start making bad trades to get us over the hump.......or the stand pat and do nothing until all the other teams grab up the players they need off the WW.......wins this year are like bob taylor used to say about playing to a tie on home ice......
- hogweed

Hextall will stick to his patience plan. He would have already shaken things up for a playoff run if that wasn't the case. He's not Homer and he will not be doing a trade for the heck of it or for a temporary boost. Hexy is only making plans for future success.

Didn't get to watch the game but good for the Flyers, winning the shootout and all. Glad to see Mason came in and was solid. He's the real deal. Still can't believe some analysts were saying the Flyers need a goalie.

Make no mistake about it, the goal of the coaching staff and the players, is to try and win and make the playoffs. That is their mindset, as it should be.
- MJL

who didn't know that? problem is this team is not a contender and any "success" they have at this point this year is exactly the opposite in terms of what they need: higher draft position in each round to fill the many holes they have in a short amount of time before the really good players they do have all retire

Hadn't put in an actual practice with teammates in weeks and was still battling the remnants of the flu. Mason probably shouldn't have even been backing up since Zepp is/was still around (no official roster move made yet) but said he felt well enough to participate in the morning skate and sit on the bench as the backup.

When the Flyers fell in a quick 2-0 hole and Emery struggling early, Berube felt he had no choice but to make the goalie switch. Somehow, Mason played very well despite -- by his own admission -- not feeling sharp until overtime.

Thanks Bill. Makes some sense now. Berube often doesn't make any sense.

So....you want the players/coaching staff to do what exactly?

Who has been placed on waivers more often in their career? Mike Richards or Zac Rinaldo? Ridiculous.

The draft will take care of itself, regardless of where they pick. Getting this team on track and playing consistent hockey is absolutely what they need. That is also part of building for the future. Not to mention evaluating the team, players, and coaches for the future.

i want them to start wearing interesting undergarments (preferably women's) on practice days and eat only bbq potato chips (2-3 bags each) on game days

edit: and possibly win the cup again

I want to give white more of a chance to see what he can do. Last night it seemed he was having too many issues trying to stop his nose from bleeding..

Most Canadian analysts say, the Flyers are still in search of a goalie and that's why they've struggled.. blah blah... idiots.

And that Roenick guy, who also said multiple times during the All Star coverage that Columbus fans were upset with Nash for leaving as a free agent.

I think that, at this point, it's known what he can do. He can sort of skate, kind of stickhandle, not really shoot/pass well, hit, and fight.

Don't get me started on the Pens missing the ASG.. 3 stars were out for 'injuries"?? I think they just couldn't be bothered to go. I'm sure G could have used some down time to heal some nagging wounds but he was there!
- Hextall271

Apparently, Malkin and Crosby couldnt be bothered to play last night either.

Umberger getting his 9th goal of the year last night. Didn't realize he had that many, were they counting his goals scored in practice as well?

Before the season the expectations for Umberger were probably in the 12-15 goal range, he's most likely going to reach that.

He's become a legitimate NHL player over the past month and a half or so. I'm still not saying it was a good trade, but he's at least gone from abysmal to slightly below adequate.

Yes, but he was also expected to be a good 2-way player who was a good skater and could help out on the PK. His game has been void of that.

Completely agree. As a former semi-professional athlete and a coach on many different levels I can say that loosing breeds only loosing. Not only does it corrupt the whole organization from players to a GM, but also goes against the very grain of any sport and achievement. The primary goal of every athlete is winning, that should be chiseled on every player's brain.

Also, rarely does tanking work. For every Crosby, Malkin, and Kane there are tons of top 5 picks that did not turn their franchises around.

Players should be playing to win. However, the organization's top seem to be subtly tanking- keeping Berube instead of looking for better option, keeping poopy D intact, playing Emery. And last, but not least giving 4th line a boat load of minutes to play.
