Those guys are/were pretty good players - PhillySportsGuy
But not "turn franchise around" type of players, that our fellow fans are hoping to get if the team tanks this season. |

Impossible for any singular player to turn a franchise around.
I don't think the players should tank, but I won't be upset with people for hoping they finish in the top 5 range rather than the top 10 or top 15 range. It's all about odds. The odds of winning the lottery and the odds of finding a franchise player in the top 5 are obviously greater than finding a franchise player in the 5-15 range. It's not an exact science, but it's about increasing your chances.
I don't root (cheer) against them, but I'm not upset when they lose either. - PhillySportsGuy
They'll still have a chance at a really good player. They don't need a franchise guy. If they get a Ladd-type at 7th overall, I'd be totally happy with that. |

Nobody's looking for a savior, just a really good player. As PSG alluded to earlier, it's about the %'s.
(Although this year, there really are two saviors at the top) |

Screw that! I want Jesus on my top line. I MIGHT be talked into accepting McDavid. Maybe. |

No singular player can turn the franchise around. Even Lemieux and Gretzky were surrounded by HOFers. It's easier to build around top line talent and top pairing defenseman. The higher you draft, the greater your chances are of finding those things. |

You may get that 1 player. But tanking will send a wrong message to the rest of the team. You should not kill competitive attitude in those who has it. |

If the player becomes Ladd, I would be satisfied. I would certainly be hoping for more though.

I hope for an elite player but if you can get an above average NHLer, you did something right. |

Ladd is such a good comparable for Crouse, lol. |

Ok, let me correct myself- not winning on purpose.
a lot of people are rooting for that, that's why I placed my initial post. Just part of it was quoted for this discussion. |

Honestly, the Flyers don't need to tank. They don't need to get McDavid (although I would love that). They're not that far off from competing with a core of Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier and Schenn. Getting a good NHL player would be enough but obviously having the guy they ultimately choose becoming an elite talent would makes things a lot easier.
I do want the highest pick possible for the reasons presented though but they shouldn't "tank" as it's commonly defined. |

Most are rooting for the best draft position. Maybe for Hexy to start selling pieces a bit earlier to help that along. But I dont think I've seen anybody explicitly express a desire to see the players/coaches throw games. |

If the scouts do their job right, it won't matter where they pick at in the first round , they still should come away with a good player. |

Well, perhaps my response was directed at the minority that did not think that winning games is important.
It's all just a healthy discussion and opinion sharing. |

Its not needed. Biggest thing is dumping some of these contracts. Then they'll be on the right track. |

Need a little bit of luck on your side, too. Wish I could post the transcription of Jay Greenberg's 90-min interview with Simon Nolet about scouting and Flyers drafts/signings in his 25 years back in the organization.
Lots of words of wisdom from Nolet. Portions of the interview will appear in Jay's 50th Anniversary history of the Flyers to be published in 2017.

Absolutely, especially in rounds past the first round, where it's mostly luck. |

People aren't rooting against them. Saying you're happy after a loss is just a defense mechanism for dealing with the losing. No one is happy after a loss. |

I haven't done any watching of prospects all season except for guys already on the Flyers. I watched the WJC, which was mostly drafted players anyway, and a couple of Erie Otters games. |
