Play the kids and the young roster players we pick up in the trades. Lose a lot. Get a higher draft pick.

On draft day or before. Swing a deal for the first pick. Our top 2 first round picks plus Kadri and Gardiner. More if required. Use our second round picks to trade for some veteran players on draft day. Work the free agent market place to bring in some heart and soul players. And the new coach gets to choose which kids make the roster. Complete blood transfusion is required here.

Ok first of all you have Phaneuf and franson ranked higher (in returns) then JVR,then your saying JVR gets the same return as Reimer..........that's (frank)ed..also we don't have a 2nd Rd pick,it went to L A for bernier,your getting rid of Kadri our 2 first rounders and Gardner for Mcdavid??? Many teams are looking for D men. And regardless of what you think about Phaneuf, he eats minutes and plays in every part of the game against the other team's top lines. On a team with solid stay at home D men, he's definitely an asset. Franson is having a pretty good year and he can be a good rental or potentially a good signing. Reimer is a very solid goalie. And when teams realize their back up situation is shaky for a playoff run, I think he's a very good option. Bottom line, we need to lose as many core players as possible. Teams at the deadline will do "crazy" things, if affordable. The Kings won the cup from the 8 spot. So many teams think if they can just make the playoffs, stuff can happen. And on the contract front with our big names. We eat salary for this year. Get the assets we want; lose a lot in the latter half. Regardless of cost, McDavid in Toronto will keep fans interested during the rebuild AND we have never had a true generational talent in Toronto. It's time.

last we heard about franson from eklund he was saying the leafs were in on franson... should be intersting

it's basic. People say kessel, gardiner etc for mcdavid. Add kessel and gardiner and whoever you want..take jvr, take phaneuf. Add them to the sabres, what do you get? a worse team than the current leafs.

Im sure buffalo is dying for that.

best case scenario for this franchise is exactly that. Only way someone gets a mcdavid/eichel this year is if they win the lottery. Neither would be dealt

Couldnt agree more...we've never properly rebuilt..ive been debating a blowup forever...we have leafs fans talking about holding onto santorelli and winnik as they are valuable going forward..i know its just opinion on here, but man o man
