Sellers market. Always is. See Paul gaustad. Someone will get desperate. A bubble team, a team that loses a star. It is unfair to say he needs to lower to what buyers want. He gets use out of them.
Kind of like cars? You drive your car in to look at new ones and your car is running fine, you aren't in a need then you have the upper hand to say no. If your vehicle craps out in your driveway and show up to the car lot in a taxi, the salesmen will be licking their chops. Why lower before the taxis arrive?
Goes for any GM. Bite at my price now or risk it being higher when you call me back. Worst case scenario is we resign the players, grossly overpaying to reach cap floor with the subtraction a of Benoit and meszaros. Two years at 4 mill per for either player wouldn't be matched in UFA. - badgermilk
Even if you really need a car it doesn't mean you have to pay more than what the car is worth just because the salesman is asking for it.
There are other sellers and will be more as other teams figure out they have no chance at the playoffs. A couple of GMs made that mistake last trade deadline thinking it was a sellers market when it became a buyers market and they got stuck with players they wanted to move because they didn't figure it out soon enough. If your GM wants to overpay players that don't make his team any better he can go right ahead and be stuck with them after.

The lanche need D help. The lanche may be looking at buffalo. TM and the lanche could be talking serious deal. The lanche need to have a formidable D for the lanche's Roy. - badgermilk
Well maybe the lanche should call the Jax. You know, the Jax from C-bus?
Or perhaps the Oil can call Max Webster to play between periods to entertain the fans...Kim Mitchell can run his silky mitts all over his guitar. |

And I would laugh if kronwall or another top D goes down for the year and we get Mantha and two 1st's for Myers. All situations are possible. - badgermilk
If you think Holland would give Mantha and 2 first round picks for Myers just because Kronwall is injured, you know nothing about his trading history. He would go to another team and pay a cheaper price keeping Mantha and the 1st round picks and still get a defenseman or go with what he has.
Last time I checked, the Wings are in the top of the league in the standings...they don't need to make a trade. They are not a bubble team so an injury wouldn't make them make a panic move. Keep dreaming though |

I'm thinking you have a rather inflated opinion of the Sabres players. But then what do I know? We gave you a potential lottery pick. Oh no, wait, that's just yours. |

I love how everyone is trolling Sabres blogs basically for the sole purpose of seeing if a) we will trade a player that we don't need to trade and b) probably won't trade and then c) they get their panties all in a twist when we talk about how if we do trade these players it will be because another team overpaid. Then to top it off they pretend like they aren't still bitter about a past trade where their GM (Snow) got fleeced. We still have Moulson and your 1st. What did you get out of the trade? |

Tim Murray is going to have a (pending UFA) Yard Sale at the trade deadline, but he's going to have a hard time getting back great value for what he's selling. I think it would be realistic to get a 2nd rounder for Stafford, a 3rd and decent prospect for Stewart, a 4th for Mitchell....
It's going to be hard to get 1st rounders from this years draft so if we do get any it will probably be a 2016. In fact, I think it would be more likely that Murray will use one of our late 1st rounders (St. louis or NYI) to sweeten a deal with a solid prospect coming back our way....and no I'm not talking about Mantha or R. O'reilly, just someone further along in their development with a potential Top 6 upside (who maybe doesn't fit into a teams long term plan)...like the Kevin Hayes situation for the Blackhawks for instance. |

is he though? i mean any time he writes about another team, it inevitably comes back to what they can give up to the sabres in trade, or what pending FA's that buffalo may be interested in.
everyone who reads his blogs and laughs expected the "maybe burnaby joe should pick the old rotary dial and place a long distance phone call to tim murray to inquire about one tyler myers. myers is proving to be an offensive dynamo to go along with his rock-steady defensive prowess, playing 46+ minutes per night for ted nolan's troops. perhaps o'reily, duchene, and a first in this year's entry draft may get it done"
...however, with more spelling mistakes and fractured sentences. - chester97
Right. He's a league AND Sabres blogger. So he likes to combine the two. Complaining about his writing has gotten no one no where. Why bother. |

looks like we ended up getting the kick in the rear for our GM that he needed to get us to the top of the eastern conference. |

Funny how the wings want a potential top pairing defenseman but they wanna give up trash bottom 6 players for it. The prices for Myers are high but they should be, hes not someone you wanna get rid of. You're not getting Myers unless Tatar or Mantha or Larkin come back, it's just that simple. Thats why the trade wont happen. |

oh i'm not complaining. his blogs are the height of comedy and i love reading them, i admit. i mean c'mon, who else gives you this;
'Murray, a stealth bomber of an executive, is smart and savvy. He does his best work under cover of the night. Usually from inside the cab of his Ford pickup truck as he is traverses the highways and by-ways of Western New York and Southern Ontario"
he's a stealth bomber from inside his truck! that's fantastic. at this point, i'm about 94% certain that he wrote the erotic rob gronkowski novel. |

Maybe if Murray wasn't asking stupid prices for his players some GMs might actually be willing to call him again to talk. Until then his phone won't be ringing and he will have to make calls and get hung up on if his prices are still way too high.
Teams aren't calling because they have already moved on and are looking elsewhere to make deals. I'll laugh if Murray gets stuck with all his UFAs not being able to trade one because he came to his senses too late - dcz28
Of course Murray is asking a stupid price for Myers. The guy is a centerpiece to build around. Just like DETROIT would ask STUPID RETURNS for any of their First line players... Go ahead laugh it up furball... |
