It's a little crazy when the coach says he didn't feel Mason wasn't ready to start but he yanks Emery after four shots and sends him in to play.

And look, I've watched this team all my life, they are NOT the most judicious in managing injuries. I don't even have to look it up. Their track record is abominable. They may not think they're out of the playoff picture but they are. Winning a game against Arizona this season really isn't important in the grand scheme of things. Lots of people on this team are playing for jobs but putting your goalie in there after one practice is a little bent. He really shouldn't have dressed.

Do you think that the coach was hesitiant to start Mason because of injury or health concerns, or because he wasn't sure if Mason would be game sharp due to a lack of practice time?

4 straight games is not a lot. There's no reason to assume the knee injury had anything to do with the back injury. Goalies tweak their knees, hips and groins all the time without another previous injury being the cause.

and played him two straight after the initial knee injury. Let's not ignore the entire post

They need to clear the equvalent of 2M. Waiving Coliacovo clears the equivalent of 551K of it.

Can we go back to the wrap Mason in buble-wrap option? My brain got stuck there...

I'm talking about claiming Olsen. I'd waive Coliacavo for him for his age alone.

It's always extremes. Somebody expresses concerns over the coach overplaying Mason in the wake of his injuries, the response is a sarcastic "So you want to wrap Mason in bubble wrap?"

In the space of 4-6 weeks(December 19-Jan 27th), Mason had two injuries that caused him to miss three weeks of action. In between times he was out, the Flyers played 7 games. Mason started 6 and played in all 7. Worries about the Flyers overworking him in the wake of the injuries is legitimate and valid.

With Timonen coming back, they could've done that if they had the cap and roster space at the time of the waiver period to claim Olsen. They would've had to wait the 24 hour waiver period for Colaiacovo. A roster spot isn't immediately opened up as soon as a player is placed on waivers.

Can we waive Rinaldo right now, and have his suspension not start until...well, hopefully next year?

Also, they could waive Ryan White and bring up someone (anyone, really) who's not him and costs less.

It is, if a statement was made that the Flyers should be cautious and make sure that Mason is fully recovered from his injuries before giving him a heavy workload, I doubt anyone would have a problem with that, including me. The statement I took issue with was really just a baseless statement where the only real intent was to criticize the lame duck coach.

I would look at Olsen. Could be a low risk move like Del Zotto.

I was wondering what Bill thought of Ryan Garbut. I know he has had some problems in Dallas. I love his speed and he plays a greasy game, can kill penalities. I wonder if you could swap Rinaldo for Garbut. Maybe a change would help them. I think Garbut is older. But just curious.
