This is completely true but it also could have been the case that Pittsburgh keeps their composure and scores 3 times during the major. It's almost a statistical lock that Pittsburgh loses their goddamn minds from the core out in just this kind of situation. - Johnny Wrath
I'll have to watch the highlights again, but it was funny to read that downie went off the rails and got an abuse of official 10 min. Haha I can't remember the last time I've seen that called. Did the guy he was fighting with pop him in the balls or something? Haha
I think Berube's concern was over a lack of practice time, not healty. Regardless, the fact that Mason came into the game and played without any medical issus, and played well, shows that there was no reason why he shouldn't have dressed for the game.

Downie got punched in the face a lot and then put his hands on the ref at the end.

Mason was under the weather. He even admitted so after the game, and said he had tunnel vision the entire game and only started to feel comfortable in overtime. So I think health had a little to do with it.
I'd have no issues shutting him down.
Realistically should have had a lot more time off each time post injury. - flyer_nutter
He shouldn't be shut down unless there was legitimate reason to do so. I think the medical staff who actually examined Mason and has direct knowledge of his injury situaition, is the most qualified to determine how much time off Mason should've had post injury. Along with feedback from the player.

I think if he wasn't healthy enough to play, Zepp would have been the back up. I think that's the reason why they kept Zepp around in case Mason wasn't ready.

I'm not sure how he got himself that call. If I'm the ref and Downie is not in very good control of himself, I toss him before he does something stupid.

What a maniac. Does he get supplemental discipline for that? You'd think the league would review it, or at least ask Sindey if it's ok to do so. - Hextall271
I didn't see the game. Did it happen during this fight?

Dumb luck when caution was needed is no excuse for recklessness.

Dumb luck is an assumption. That Mason came in and played without issue, and played well, is direct evidence that he was capable of playing in that game.

Instead, after addressing the media, Mason limped down the hallway toward the showers with a huge ice bag wrapped around his right knee. It was the same knee that he alluded earlier “desperate measures” — surgery, perhaps? — were pondered about while he was out.
“I think the organization did everything they could to make sure that long-term, they did what’s best for me,” Mason said.
But when pressed for more details on his vague answers, Mason froze.
“Talk to [general manager Ron Hextall] or [trainer] Jimmy McCrossin," Mason said. “I don’t want to comment more than that.”

Honestly, have to see how he plays in his opportunities the rest of the season, but it seems to me as though Emery is in serious decline. - MJL
I'm not disagreeing, in fact as much as I love him, he's been in decline awhile now. However, he's still good enough to have a solid outing behind a poor defense against the Penguins.

Regarding Mason's injuries. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the the team shut him down the moment it becomes obvious they will not make the playoffs. Lets hope the team realizes it before something catastrophic happens.

He was healthy enough to dress, but Berube probably didn't feel he was healthy enough to start. Players play with head colds all of the time, but it doesn't mean you want to play a goalie with a head cold unless you're more or less forced to.
