Over the course of an NHL season, players play all the time at less then 100%. It's part of the game. If the Flyers thought that Mason wasn't capable of playing, and that playing put him at further risk, I don't think he would've dressed as the backup. - MJL
On Tuesday I'm sure Mason was ready to play. In fact, he already proved that he was somewhat ready. I can't speak for whatever point Jmatchette is trying to make but I don't see an issue with a starting goalie at least sitting the bench in a return, rather then rushing him in. We saw this with the Boucher/Leighton combo. Leighton had a solid season for us, got hurt prior to the playoffs and seeing how Boucher was on a role, why change things? Now clearly Emery was never "on a role" but he did just have a solid outing against the Penguins. From my understanding Mason was rehabbing his knee and when I hear the word "Rehab", I think it's best to bring a player along slowly. Not to mention we thought Mason was fine against Boston after a minor injury and he got hurt early in that game. Also we can look no further then last season when Mason got hurt just prior to the playoffs and couldn't start to the first half of the first round. Better to be safe then sorry. I'd still start Emery Saturday though against a Maple Leafs team that's having issues scoring right now. |

My original point was that he admittedly was feeling ill from a head cold, and that probably played a part into why Emery started. Then it got dragged through the mud.

I just wanted to quote this and have it as a stand-alone statement. Keep people guessing a bit, maybe.

So, THEORETICALLY...had Mason been reinjured during the game, would have have said that the team was wrong to put him in the lineup? - jmatchett383
Not sure what you're asking here, maybe a word missing.

If I knew for a fact that he had aggravated an existing injury, absolutely.

I got half way through this gameday thread and realized I need a good beating a dead horse gif when it comes to Rinaldo.

When I hear the phrase "Flyers medical staff", images of leetches, rusty saws and electroshock treatments come to mind. |
