Don't forget, moving Streit clears $5.25mm in cap space, which allows them to go after a free agent in the summer. Maybe if they dealt Streit, they could sign Sekera or Green or Martin as a UFA. - Jsaquella
Yeah, that's a possibility, but I can't see Washington letting Green walk, and I am not enthralled with what else is out there for UFA dmen. If it's a 1st.. yes.. a high 2nd and a good prospect, I consider it. |

Pens and Caps had a fight filled game last night. Prettty entertaining stuff. I just wish the Flyers would stop making them play like that. - jak521
Stupid Flyers made the Pens trade for Max Lapierre because they're so tough |

Streit is exactly the type of vet D man that Detroit would seek. |

I'd be amazed if they re-signed Green. Their defense is already expensive and Green is playing fewer minutes than just about any of them. He's been used mostly on the PP, but guys like Niskanen and Carlson can take his minutes there. |

Byfuglien scored a goal in that game and he did dole out a bunch of big hits. You know what else he did? He directly contributed to three Flyers goals by being out of position or (on the final one) turning over the puck in a dangerous area. He ran around all game and did more damage to his own team that night that he did to the Flyers.
Playing under control, Byfuglien is an asset. Playing with zero discipline, he is a liability even when he does do some good things. - bmeltzer
Is that not the risk you have when you put a guy like that out there? He is an all-star caliber, border line elite offensive defenseman. What makes him even more captivating is that he is pretty much the only offensive d-man who is also a huge physical presence.
Gotta live with the bumps if you want that package. |

that's what the Pens need to do to win: fight more, focus on throwing hits, and add dirty players. Several posters on their thread argued their biggest team weakness was that other teams crosschecked their players who had just scored goals, where Penguins were not getting these valuable crosschecks. The data confirms it:

Ok. Here's a question then. Would we want him at what he would command? |

Under control, playing with a partner who is more defensively responsible.. Buff would be a great guy to have on this team. You hope a player matures as his career moves along. |

It's funny. You read a large majority of the Pittsburgh writers and a lot of Pens fans about the horrible, dirty, nasty Flyers and one team is dumping enforcers and had their less skilled, agitator scratched until injuries forced him back in the lineup and the other added Max Lapierre to Steve Downie, Bobby Farnham and Zach Sill. |

It'd have to be a short term deal for me. Just using his name as an example. I'm not advocating Green. I'd rather have Sekera or Martin. |

Aside from (off the top of my head) Weber, Chara, Kronwall, E. Johnson, Hedman, and McDonagh, yes. |

Thanks Bill. I agree with what you said about Big Buff. Of late he has been playing well, but it's just a matter of time before he reverts back to his old habits. He shows flashes of being a decent player, but then he reminds you with his play that he is over rated. If he did come to the Flyers, I bet it wouldn't be long before he is the scape goat for all the goals against; just like turn over king #5. After #5, McD is the next in line for the D woes.
However, you can't blame the D entirely. If the forwards sit, and watch, and hang around the blue line all day, then your D men will slowly fade over the course of the game. It's similar to having your D out on the field too long in football.
Speaking of McD, anyone for some Chinese burgers...lol? Damn, all this talk about burgers got Buff hungry again...ouch. |
