Do you think that has to do with ice time/linemates/PP? Just curious.

Might be more room to see the ice as well

That is correct.
Moved him back to D when they had 4 of their top 6 injured.
he doubled his point totals during his time on D

Speaking of injured D, I see that Bogosian is the the lineup tonight. I wonder if he'll make it through the warm-up skate without going on LTIR.

Just looking at the way the eastern conference is shaping up. There is a clear group of 8 teams seperating themselves while Florida is still a longshot. 1-8 seed right now are seperated by just 8 pts. I can't wait for these playoffs it's going to be highly competitive in the eastern conference

This is very true.

Hedman's the only guy who's natural set of tools comes close, IMO.

- Tomahawk

Hedman is twice the defenseman that Byfuglien is. Is being grossly over weight one of Byfuglien's natural set of tools?

His base pay is $2 million, applied to this year's cap. According to a source, Timonen will earn an additional $750,000 with 10 games played, an additional $250,000 on top of that at 20 games played, and $250,000 on top of that if he makes it to 30 games. There was another $250,000 on the table for 40 games, but that is no longer possible.

i don't recall hearing anything about these bonuses that are over and above the salary and cap hit.

Morin and Ghost, hopefully.

Sanheim should be enrolled at Terry Murray Academy.

- Tomahawk

I guess the concern is, even if these dmen pan out and become solid NHL regulars, by the time they hit their prime, how old will Giroux and Voracek be?

Having prime years of these guys going of the board as a non contender is really tough to swallow.

I see no reason to believe G and V will be slowing down anytime soon. They both have skillsets that last with age. Especially G

It was part of his contract from day one, which is why I said that the contract was a bad contract. Bringing Timonen back now could possibly cause the Flyers to have to carry a cap penalty next season for bonus overages, because they are using the bonus cushion.

I'm not letting that rush, and possibly ruin, the kids, tho.

Also, even if G's older when they finally can win it, he might not even be the guy they're depending on to drive the bus then. Hopefully they'll keep drafting/adding young F's in the meantime, some of which could similarly turn into special players.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. Even more reason to trade him to a cup contender for a pick. How many games until the trade deadline?

We also have to see what the Flyers do, to get Timonen back on the team with the Cap. They were using LTIR cap space for Timonen to do a number of things. Now the exemption is going away.

Even with a $1m penalty there should be no problem putting a team together under the ~$71-72 million cap for next season. They might not be able to sign any major FAs, but that's not a bad thing in another transition year.

They don't really have a lot of players they have to re-sign for next year. They'll need a backup goaltender, and Schultz, Bellemare, and Del Zotto are unsigned. Del Zotto can simply be handled with a Q offer. Bellemare shouldn't see a big raise, and who knows what's going to happen with Schultz. They'll have some cap space to work with.

I wonder what'll happen with the backup goalie spot. I think the hopes for Zepp to jump in have cooled a bit, and Emery isn't looking so hot.

If they threw a 2-year/$750K/year one-way contract at Zepp, I'm pretty sure he'd stay and be happy as the AHL/NHL swing man if need be.

I don't know, not sure why they wouldn't consider Zepp as a backup.
