I see no reason to believe G and V will be slowing down anytime soon. They both have skillsets that last with age. Especially G - JonnyHammerstix
I agree. I think a lot of people see vinny and assume once ya hit 32 the good years are gone. I think for super star players (or former stars) vinny is kind of an anomaly. Look at msl, iginla, jagr, datsyuk, hossa, thornton, Marluea, the sedins. Even a guy like shane doan has been able to be a consistentr 20 goal scorer 40- 60 point guy for the last 5 years and he's 38 now. Hell even mike ribeiro to some extent (excluding last season w/ the yotes). Giroux and voracek have some incredible, natural talent. I'm not worried about them falling off anytime soon. more worried about Simmonds when he gets older, if raffl can stay a consistent goal scoring 2 way forward, if schenn can hit his ceiling and if he can stay there, same with laughton (I'd be happy with him being a 20g 20-30a guy who plays a responsible 2 way game). I'm more worried that we could possibly be over hyping our d prospects, and when they all come up they're just above average defenders, not elite like we're all hoping. But g and jake are the least of my worries. |

They are a weird team. - Feanor
If there was a team that should sell out to bring in a marquee, name coach like Mike Babcock, it's the Pens.
There is something very wrong with that team. |

No question, it's different for every player. I think the concern of possibly wasting 2-3 prime years of Giroux, Voracek and others is valid. Which is why I don't agree with the premise if just sitting back and waiting and giving away seasons. I have no doubt that Voracek and Giroux will both still be top players in 2-3 years. It's just a question of will or when will the rest of the team catch up. |

Even with a $1m penalty there should be no problem putting a team together under the ~$71-72 million cap for next season. They might not be able to sign any major FAs, but that's not a bad thing in another transition year. - Feanor
There is no way if I'm Hexy I bring kimmo back if he's costing me 1 mil in empty cap space next year
Berube is going to run mase into the ground here. Im thinking the knockout blow to put mase out for the year is coming soon |

It's happening, so it's a possibility.
Mason is 27th in the League in games played. How is he being run into the ground? |

I think the best bet for players developing into guys who can make a difference are coots, and raffl. I see schenn as a consisten 20g20a guy his whole career. I hope I'm wrong about schenn though lol part of me is iffy on raffl.... I feel like he could turn into a big difference maker, or he'll just disappear.

If so, not good management, unless they think they can trade him.
Lame duck coach trying to save job, worst backup goalie in the league, mason will be injured again |

Schenn absolutely has the ability, he just goes into these monster slumps. He has scored 1 goal in the last 22 games. |

Didn't answer the question. Mason is 27th in the League in games played. Are the other teams with goalies that have played considerably more games then Mason has to this point, going to rest their goalies the rest of the season? If Mason is going to be run in the ground by a lame duck coach, so are plenty of other goalies going to be run into the ground by similar desparate coaches. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 1/29/15 vs. WPG - bmeltzer
I'm all for Mason starting tonight, he gives us our best opportunity to win but I do wonder how down the majority are on Emery. Being a back up can never be easy. He plays maybe once every two weeks and we all know of his limitations but he's like to never to get into a groove. So if he has a tough start, I can't hold it against him every time. He was great against the Penguins prior to the break. Rob Zepp was playing a lot with the Phantoms before being called up. However he's 33 and has seen like 5 games, his last where he actually looked human.
If I'm being honest, I'm starting Emery Saturday against the Leafs. The last time Mason had a "minor" injury, Berube kept going back to Mason anyway and it cost us our starter for two weeks. Let's not make the same mistake. |

Honestly, have to see how he plays in his opportunities the rest of the season, but it seems to me as though Emery is in serious decline. |

He does hit these slumps which can be killer. Imagine him turning into this fantastic goal scorer in a few years but in the playoffs he hits a bad slump. No bueno. Ehh well on a positive note he had 2 assists against nyi the other week.

The only thing that bothers me is that he is playing with two players are in the top 5 in scoring. He should be getting points by accident.

that's what the Pens need to do to win: fight more, focus on throwing hits, and add dirty players. Several posters on their thread argued their biggest team weakness was that other teams crosschecked their players who had just scored goals, where Penguins were not getting these valuable crosschecks. The data confirms it:

Thanks for the positive words lol everyone says boston has the worst fans, wrong. In order- Pens, Habs, Hawks, Kings, leafs. Then boston Just kidding. Kinda. At least theres a level headed boston fan ya run into once in a while. lol But right back atcha, I hate the b's
Anyways I agree that its a disgrace for teams and their fans to cheer for a tank to get a guy like mcdavid. Play the season the same way you would ANY other season and see where ya end up. If its middle of the pack so be it. I enjoy watching my fave team play and win when they can so you take what ya can get. |
