I know He is a shell of himself from early in the year. The guy is maddening.

Its not like they are focusing on him when he gets on the ice. Granted, his line is normally playing against the shut down line of the other team, but they are surely focused on shutting down V and G. Baby Schenn should be in ultimate garbage mode, just getting to the net and picking up the trash.

If I was Brayden Schenn, I wouldn't even worry about carrying the puck, I would make a beeline for the net whenever I could within the flow of play, and within the system. The puck is going to get there pretty often.

Okay, I'll rephrase the question, what is the basis for saying that Berube is going to run Mason into the ground in the future, other then wanting to take a veiled shot at the coach?

Exactly. Especially since when G or V has the puck, Schenn could basically just appear like the invisible man.
Playing every two or three nights shouldn't be a problem; it's only back to back situations where the backup really needs to come in. And the Flyers only have four of those left.

The other top goalies who have already played consderable more hockey then Mason has to this point, are going to continue to play at that rate, not to mention any extra time they play in the playoffs.
Mason will probably wind up somewhere between 55-60 games played. Not a big deal

Does the fact that Mason has been pretty banged up off and on all season play into anything here?
The thing that gets overlooked in Mason's useage is that he's already missed time with back and leg injuries.
If he's fully healthy, there is no reason he can't play a lot more games. If the knee or back recur, then perhaps too heavy a workload could be a contributing factor. It was reported that he had to ice his knee last night after the game and that he was limping, so let's not completely write off any concerns as baseless panic.

I agree. It's about the injuries plus the minutes. It's not the minutes in a vacuum.
Only if he still has some injuries to the point where they need to limit his playing time. - MJL
So, hypothetically speaking... Say they play Mason in 20 of the next 21 games... and he has to go back out.. Does that not mean he was run into the ground because Fleury, Price, Lundqvist, etc have played more minutes?
Wonder if the Flyers would be interested in Dylan Olsen on waivers from Florida. Former 1st round pick, still only 24...not much of an offensive guy, but decent size & solid skating

Do you think that the team, and the coach will take any injury concerns in consideration when determining the workload for Mason down the stretch? The issue isn't that there shouldn't be concern for Mason because of the injuries he's had this year, it's the statement that the lame duck coach is going to run Mason into the ground. Which implies that the coach is going to ignore any injury issue in an attempt to save his job. I think that's unfair. If the statement was Berube needs to be careful with Mason down the stretch, I think that would make a lot more sense, rather then just assuming that Berube is going to run Mason into the ground just to make another baseless criticism of Berube.

Talent Analysis
Olsen is a defenseman with decent size who projects as a defensive-first blueliner at the NHL level. He skates well for a big man and has a good top end speed. His heavy, accurate shot is effective on the man advantage, but he will need to continue developing his offensive instincts to play a consistent role on the power play in the NHL. He is a capable puck mover but is still prone to making bad decisions with the puck. Defensively, Olsen can use his size and strength to knock forwards off the puck. His footwork and quickness could still use some work and he needs to be more active in the play to make his presence felt.

That's the worry I have. Mason is going to say he can play, because he's a pro athlete and has pride and desire to play.
Berube may well be coaching for his job, so it's very possible that injury concerns are secondary to him. Mason is clearly the team's best goalie and gives them the best chance to win.

That would depend on why he had to go out. There is also a hypothetical possibility that he plays 20 out of 21 games, and is fine. Looking at minutes played and games played of other goalies to this point, shows that Mason has played considerable less then a lot of goalies in the league. Also assumes that if he is playing, it's because he is healthy enough to play. Unless anyone thinks the Flyers should wrap Mason up bubble wrap, and save him for next year.
