Wonder if a late first could get us a guy like Brandon Saad. Or a guy similar like that whos team may not be able to afford a bigger contract - hubie
they will trade patrick sharp before saad ..

I think this is just to try and keep the suspense or story going.
I think the gap is far bigger than some suggest. mcdavid is literally in a Crosby stratosphere.
over a ppg as a 15 year old?close to 3 ppg this season
then u actually watch him play a few times. dominant and powerful. - Ihateallofu
I agree, ive seen him a few times in person and his "off" game was a goal and 3 assists vs the London Knights
I think the they arent so far off is a pr play and tries to cement that if Connor wasnt in the draft Jack would be first overal and that wouldnt even be close. |

Me thinks that the 2nd 1st round pick is moved along with a prospect for a guy like Patrick Sharp.
Murray said it himself that with the Canadian dollars dropping and the cap not rising that much that salary cap strapped teams will have to move good players. If I am TM I send one of the Islanders or Blues picks along with Baptiste or Hurley for Sharp in a heart beat - Stripes77
do we really need a 34 year old that is hitting the wall i would pass ..

well said. and agree.
didn't mean to disparage eichel in any way. watched him in the wjc's and while he wasn't super dominant, one can see the tools he has and that hes a fantastic player. whoever gets him will be lucky. but connor is all alone at the top |

Thinking over lunch and i remembered at the end of last season losing damn near everygame that we had reached rock bottom...Now after 13 striaght losses weve fallen even farther. with the deadline coming and players on the move is it possible to fall even harder? |

IMO Teams will look to move higher/older contracted players out for pennies on the dollar rather than moving their young up and comers.
Sharp
Eriksson
Lecavalier
Simmonds
Mike Richards
Dustin Brown
Clarkson
Lupul
I'd guess 5/6 of these guys will be moved at some point between now and draft day. |

4 years older than Richards, plays with very good linemates yet only has about 10 points more than Richards (yes, in fewer games too, but the linemates are worlds better), and has missed significant time a couple seasons ago and 1/4th of the season so far this year. Yes, his contract isn't as long, but if you can get Richards for free/very cheap, why trade this 1st round pick? |

Sharp just turned 33 on Dec 27th and if the issue with Richards is his contract, Sharp only has 2 years left. |

I dont think the exchange rate is going to effect all that much in Tor and MTl. Maybe not even the flames as most of their roster is young and affordable. May hit Loseapeg the most of all the teams. |

It's not a reflection of it hurting Canadian teams, it's a reflection that the higher revenue in the huge Canadian markets will be weaker after the exchange rate to US dollars (the standard at which salaries are paid). |

No way and it isn't even close. Sharp may be 3 years older but he is still a real nice player on a shorter contract.

He missed 20 games in the strike shortened season. A lot of guys missed time that season. I wouldn't move one of the 1sts unless it happens to be 28-30th but he is a guy that can help you and his contract is up in 2 years.
5.9 for 2 years or 5.75 for 5 years? |

They still have an interest in Richards, i'm sure the Hawks will find a way not move Sharp. They always seem to work things out with the cap. |

True, but will it only effect the teams profit more so than ability to pay salaries. The Cap wont move very much I dont think |

Imo it would be best to use those two late first round picks in separate trades.
there are so many players you could target with those 2 firsts. (Plus if we get one or 2 more.)
