Given the fact that Chicago really seems to be missing that 3rd/4th line grinder who stands up for his teammates, can play nasty, and lay down a big hit at a given time, when Kassian's name was first brought up I thought "well, he WAS highly touted at one point ... high enough to be traded for highly-regarded Hodgson". Then I looked at his numbers and thought "his numbers are lacking and he's not even an everyday player in VAN this year". Then I thought "the kid is still 24, is 6'3", and might need a fresh start elsewhere - again."
So what is it with this guy? Funny how two young, touted forwards were traded for one another and both have struggled mightily.
Given Chicago's needs it would seem like he might make logical sense (to some degree), but I can't fathom the possibility of the team acquiring a gritty player only to not even have him dress every night. |

Okay, after doing some research I like this move.
Feel like it's good for both sides, Forsling is a similar player(probably less grit), but Clendening is waiver eligible next year so like Vey in LA they didn't have a spot for him and shipped him out for a younger asset.
Wouldn't surprise me if CHI originally wanted Kassian, but they couldn't work out a deal involving him so both sides agreed to this move. |

He honestly has the tools to be a great player. Good stick handling, Good speed, great size. Just sort of seems lost out there 90 percent of the time.
We aquired shawn mathhias in the lou trade and though he started of slow, He has become everything we wanted. He does eerything Kassian should do. use his size speed and drive to the net.
Kass simply has not put it together yet. |

Honestly, Matthias is starting to get a bit overrated around here IMO. He's still just a streaky bottom 6 player with size, he's not physical/gritty enough to really wear down an opposing team or agitate them and his offense is inconsistent. What's also weird is that he's an effective PK player but average defensively at 5v5.
I like his hustle and size, but if Kassian turns out to be Matthias-like I'd trade him now and hope someone buys his "upside". |

I wouldn't call Kassian "Touted" coming out of Junior...... He was controversial as heck.
He had a dynamite draft year, but it was controversial.
- He concussed #1 prospect John Tavares with a Brutal check
- He was plagued by inconsistency
- Suspended 20 games for a brutal check to some Kennedy kid (some people thought he should been kicked out of the OHL)
- He was controversial at the world juniors where he had tons of penalties and some suspensions 30pm's in 5 games.
- Was dominant when he won a memorial cup with windsor
- Got arrested for assault after winning the memorial cup and sentenced to community service
The guy Needs a full time mental coach. But when he is on his game he is dominant down low along the boards. |

Another possibility is more trade work with the Hawks this summer with Kassian.

We have been the slump busters for a some time now...so I would guess it will be a shutout victory for Buffalo with a hatty from Coho. |
