When you are saying they should make more, are we talking 500k or 1mil?
Schneider seems to be one of the best bargains out there at 4mil.
There are a lot of younger goalies with good cap hits but they were unproven when they signed those contracts. Bishop in Tbay is another good example at 2.5mil, but he will be paid next contract just noticed he extended for 2 years at 5.95mil.
Would I have preferred Miller at 5mil or less? Of course.
But I think Miller is better than Crawford in Chicago, Howard in Detroit, Fleury in Pitts.... all within a million of his salary. Term should be considered too.
We could have done worse than Miller, but then again that wouldn't have been so bad either. - hillbillydeluxe

Hossas contract is a harder move them luongos and Crawford goes no where. The rest are a fair point - Bieksa#3
Even if they do end up having to move Saad, there are teams with the assets to get him and we are not one. NYI for instance could throw MDC at Chicago to get that top 6 forward that could make them a contender. We aren't getting back a team's top prospect or young roster player for our spare parts. Even from contenders, like Bezz said, if those teams really wanted to go all-in like that they'd target a Yandle/ROR/Eberle/Etc - Nucker101
If Ebs is available he is a guy I would target we need speed and scoring in the worst way he would fill that need. |

They were projecting up 3 mill. Now with the sagging Canadian $ they are suggesting it stays the same or maybe goes down a bit - Bieksa#3
League confirmed it would be around 72million not too long ago. Slightly less than projected but not down or the same |

How far has the dollar sank since bettman said that in November. TSN was even discussing it the other day |

I'm still using capgeek... shows the 6mil kicking in next season until 2021-22... Still don't think the Miller signing is bad...
I was surprised when I first heard it from Benning that at the player exit discussions last season the core wanted a proven goalie. I thought Lack did pretty good considering how the team played in front of him. |

I saw the other day that 72 is still the low mark, and that was based off an average of 80 cent to the US dollar between october 2014 to june 2015. If the dollar really drops between now and june we might see a lower cap but right now I doubt the average over that time is close to 80. |

I have coffee once/week here locally with one of the scouts for the WPG Jets...every once in awhile he throws something my way in terms of info and recently mentioned that EDM has been kicking the tires on Lack. You'd have to wonder if a deal is possible and/if Eberle would be the target. Has the ability to be a great scorer but also plays pretty soft alot of the time..

Today's blog is on the way, but I wanted to quickly comment on this. Bettman talked about it during his between-periods interview last night and his press conference earlier in the day:
http://blogs.theprovince....lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
"The cap isn’t falling off a cliff. In December I told the board (of governors) my rough estimate with the Canadian dollar at 88 cents, the cap would be $73 million. Last Saturday when I reported to the board, I said if the Canadian dollar was at 82 cents for the rest of the season, the cap would be $72.22 million or $72.23, And I said if the dollar was to drop to 80 cents for the rest of the season the cap would be roughly $71.7 million or $71.8.
“What that tells is maybe we’re dealing with a million or a couple of hundred of thousand differential. On a cap that’s over $70 million I’m not sure anyone should take that as a material difference.”
That final number won't be determined till the end of the season, and I've heard speculation that the dollar could drop as low as 75 cents. It closed at 78.68 yesterday, so this could definitely be an issue for teams going forward, even as Gary tries to downplay it. |

That would be very interesting, Lack going to Edmonton, even if it was just their second coming back and maybe a prospect or part of a bigger deal... Not sure what we would have to add to get Eberle, but think it would be quite costly.
Was wondering who Benning thinks are grade A prospects of the Canucks (not in nhl)?

I think his played had improved from the beginning of the year.
very solid defensively, great PK'er, goes to the front of the net. Put him with skilled players and he'll produce. I think i team will be enticed by him.

I would be stoked to get a 2nd from EDM for Lack and think Lack would be a good fit as a 1A there but I doubt they are willing to move essentially a late first in this draft.

Who knows, but the timing is interesting. Last week Management ended speculation concerning Markstrom while acquiring a dman this week.
If Edm's interest in Lack is valid well we now have a spare defense-man we could include. |

I think Edmonton would be more inclined to move a forward than a D-man.... especially a young and up and coming one. |
