I think you're thinking of Bertuzzi who came in 97/98 season

A couple of stats that stood out to me from a passittobulis article.

"With Tanev on the ice at even-strength, opponents average just 22.6 shots per 60 minutes, placing him second among NHL defencemen with at least 20 games played. Edler’s not far behind at 6th, with 23.7 shots against per 60 minutes. Considering they regularly play against opponents’ top lines, that’s incredibly impressive."

and

"the Canucks nearly out-shoot their opponents while Matthias is penalty killing. In raw numbers, the Canucks have 23 shots for and 25 against while Matthias is on the ice shorthanded."

Crazy how much of a turn around Edler has had from last year, have to think that Tanev is a big reason why.
Also very interesting how good Matthias has been on the PK. The Canucks have been very good penalty killers for years and I didn't expect Matthias to have a big role there considering that Burrows, Higgins, Hansen, Richardson are all excellent on the PK as well.

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Day: Jan 30 vs. Buffalo Sabres, Clendening Acquired
The Vancouver Canucks swapped defensive prospects with the Chicago Blackhawks as Ryan Miller prepares to take on his old team, the Buffalo Sabres, Friday night at Rogers Arena.

Hey! By 2018 we'll be rid of all the bad contracts if Benning doesn't screw it up.

I think you're undervaluing him a little. Trade him to EDM for their 1st this year. While we are at it; trade Kassian to them for Yak or Nurse.
