How much more do you think it would cost? Both of schenn and couturier and Simmonds? Or maybe one of schenn or coots, a pick, and then Simmonds? I know there would be a lot of teams knocking on the yotes' door, but how many team need a bona fide #1 dman? I think teams that are set on D wouldn't be willing to pay that much for him, and I feel like theres a lot less than 20 team who would pay a lot for him. Not saying you're wrong, that's just what I think and I could be completely wrong lol

I was thinking it would cost the Flyers at least coots Simmonds and their #1 and maybe a prospect. Look how much it cost to get pronger and he was in his mid 30's. I could be completely wrong too (20+ might be an exaggeration) but it's very rare that a bonafide #1 defenseman hits the trade market.

Agreed. Especially when the talent level isn't exactly a rarity. There's a lot of guys out there who can do what MacDonald does. The Flyers decided to pay him a premium for that level of ability.

I'd love to sit here and not criticize the Flyers. The trouble is, they're paying $75mm in salary for a 22nd place team. Want to ignore or downplay the stats? Fine. Look at wins and losses. The highest payroll in the league for a bottom third team in the standings.

That's the bottom line.

There's lots of reasons why a team struggles. I think stating that the Flyers are a mediocre team with a high pay roll is a valid point. I disagree that there are a lot of guys out there who can do what MacDonald does that are available. Defenseman are at a premium in the NHL.
