I don't think Del Zotto has been better defensively. I think MacDonald's play in his own end, combined with his ability to move the puck is overlooked. Not that Del Zotto is playing poorly defensively, because he's also playing well defensively. - MJL
I think you severely over-estimate his puck moving (especially when it comes to clearing the puck). MacDonald is not even an above average puck mover. When he plays with a bit of aggressiveness in his offensive game I would agree, but overall he is so/so in my eyes. As a defensive d-man, maybe you are on to something, as he is much better than Schenn and Grossmann. |

If you have pride, you work out in the off season like you promised when they didn't buy you out at the end of last year. - mayorofangrytown

9 points out, with no games in hand, it's a tough task. Not only do the Flyers need to win, they need other teams to falter a bit. |

More like implode. No way the Flyers are even winning 20 more games this season. IMO |

Thats a harsh reality. Hopefully someone loses a center and needs Vinny to fill in. Cross your fingers |

He's borderline elite, I think he is a legit number one right now at age 23. I also think that within a few years at most he's right there with the Doughty level guys. |

If thats the case it might be worth considering. I just dont think its worth Simmonds, Schenn and Couts.... I would try a package of Schenn, Ghost and a 1st. |

Even if it's guys like Grossmann or Coburn the extra year on the deal can be a hassle, given the instability of the CDN dollar. Can a team commit to another season of Grossmann at $3.5mm or Coburn at $4.5mm if the cap only goes up $2.5mm?
Before the inane cap panic posts, this is a real concern in a league where 10-12 teams have been utilizing LTIR for long stretches this season. |

It might not be, it's a big, ballsy move. I think at the very least, if you do it, you're getting a massive building block at a very young age.
Conversely, it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get him. My guess is they'd want Voarcek and a high pick. I wouldn't do that. |

No way. There are other avenues to acquire a D-man. |

just a thought with all the Arizona coyotes trade talks, what does anyone think of a trade like this: b. schenn/ couturier + Simmonds for OEL? - benjichronic
b. schenn, couturier, and simmonds for OEL and 2015 1st rounder. |

That still seems really high. What forwards would we have left??? |

We wouldn't, but that's probably the cost.
I wouldn't trade for OEL or any other #1 unless it's Doughty, Keith, or Ekblad.
Name of the game now is build through the draft. |
