Even if it's guys like Grossmann or Coburn the extra year on the deal can be a hassle, given the instability of the CDN dollar. Can a team commit to another season of Grossmann at $3.5mm or Coburn at $4.5mm if the cap only goes up $2.5mm?

Before the inane cap panic posts, this is a real concern in a league where 10-12 teams have been utilizing LTIR for long stretches this season.

OEL sounds nice and all but I would rather just build through the draft. Be patient. The overall team would be better and have more depth.

Agreed. Especially when the talent level isn't exactly a rarity. There's a lot of guys out there who can do what MacDonald does. The Flyers decided to pay him a premium for that level of ability.

I'd love to sit here and not criticize the Flyers. The trouble is, they're paying $75mm in salary for a 22nd place team. Want to ignore or downplay the stats? Fine. Look at wins and losses. The highest payroll in the league for a bottom third team in the standings.

That's the bottom line.

I guess I just don't know who these younger players are. We have 5 players under 25 and at least one have them has hit his ceiling and that's pretty much a basement ceiling. I haven't seen any positive growth this season under the current management on the NHL roster.

Adam Hall's absence hurts the PK and the faceoffs that must be taken in the defensive zone are now handled by a guy Chief insists must improve offensively but only recently has his offensive zone starts outnumbered his defensive ones (Couturier). Still, Couts is en route to his best season yet.
