First let me say this, I like Eddie Lack, good team player. That said, I don't think he's proven in his 55 NHL games that he's a legit starter in the National Hockey League. So I disagree with Botch.

I didn't agree with a whole lot of what Botch had to say
Don't see how scratching Kassian after a good game for him makes sense as "lighting a fire under his ass" or serves to raise his trade value? I also highly doubt that Benning was shopping him at cut rate prices

I truly believe he only got so many starts under Torts because Luongo fell out of favor with him and management. I think we need to bring up Markstrom for a few games and give Eddie a conditioning stint if that is possible. He needs more game time and he isn't going to get it with Miller around.

IMO Lack hasn't deserved it…they obviously feel they have a better chance to win with Miller in net…and I tend to agree with that.

I know Miller has had some soft goals this year, but he's had a lot of starts, bound to happen. Lack lets in a bad one almost every game and he's only played in 11 games.

Botch seemed really off guard when asked what he was hearing trade wise.... he was definitely talking out his ass as usual.

Yea I didn't even bother listening too closely. Rang particularly hollow against what Lefty says Bob Mac said on 1040 about the Canucks not being very active right now

The Canucks definitely don't have the run support to allow bad goals.

Very true. Don't have the mental ability to come back from down 1-0 or 2-0 anymore either. If we don't get the first goal...we are pretty muched hooped.

I saw that…but…you've gotta have patience with kids in you're system. How many times do teams give up too early on kids that later become good NHL players. What's the harm in having patience with him?

He's played 180 games thus far in the league, it's been said it takes around 200 games to see what you've got in a player, give him a top six role and see what he does with it.

With how weak our top six is, I think that if Kassian showed even minimal improvement or defensive awareness he would have gotten a shot by now because I agree that whatever promise he has shown he has shown in that role. But he just doesn't seem to have it between the ears.

You worry about trading him while his value is low and then seeing him figure it out with another team, particularly since the Canucks have a bad habit of doing that and right now we can't afford to give away skill, or size. My fear of that happening would be my only reason for holding on to Kassian though, because I don't think that he will become that player, and right now he's just taking up a roster spot... Sometimes.

Other than Neeley, what other examples do you have of Vancouver trading someone who meets or exceeds expectations elsewhere?

Not recent but - Rick Vaive and Petr Nedved

Edit: but you can do that with most teams

Grabner, without even having to think about it.

You could also argue Kesler and Luongo. Yeah they wanted out, but those are two assets playing good hockey that we did not get fair value for. Add Schnieder to the list. We've given away too many good players in the recent past and don't have a ton to show for it.

Grabner? Really?
Waived by another team to go on and have 1 relatively successful season and then engage his cloaking device and completely disappear. Does he even play in the NHL anymore?
